Hitmen playoffs - at the Corral
Interesting twist thanks to the Juno Awards.
Calgary is playing either Lethbridge or Red Deer in the first round, but will start on the road. Game 3 is March 27 at 4PM, at the Saddledome.
But Game 4 isn't until April 1, 7PM, and will be at the Corral. That's going to be interesting, and possibly a little insane. Game 6, if necessary, would be April 4, also at the Corral. They were actually looking at playing at Winsport first, but that would have been rather interesting with 6000 season ticket holders in a 3500-4000 seat arena.
The Hitmen would return to the Dome for round 2 if they make it.
Rare opportunity to go old school and see a game at a hopefully packed Corral!

About 6500 with plenty of space for SRO tickets. They can fit around 7300 in total.

When looking back at 1,000 games, the highlights would include a Eastern Conference final with Calgary in 1998, a series that saw a few games between the Swift Current Broncos and Calgary Hitmen played at the old Calgary Corral. I remember doing my first game in that building and thinking I had been transported back in time. The place was packed. It was standing room only - 3 deep! The series saw the Broncos build up a 3-1 lead, only to lose three straight including the game seven clincher 1-0. A young Todd McLellan was guiding the Broncos at the time. Now as the head coach with the San Jose Sharks, McLellan already has a Stanley Cup ring and possibly a NHL coach of the year honor in his back pocket.

Could this be the last meaningful hockey to be played in the Corral?
Stampede board is planning to start a BMO center expansion in 6 months that will see the Corral torn down.

That is sad.
I think it would be great to watch a game in the Coral.
I use to play beer league there.
Hard to believe it was an NHL rink.
Those benches are going to be tight.

Those would be some awesome games to watch. I went to the Davis Cup there a few years back, and it got crazy loud for Tennis.

Got a ticket for game 4 at the Corral. I expect the noise level will be quite loud.

Ticketmaster is showing game 6 (Monday April 4) as going on sale today at noon.
For $12 tickets, use the code HIT## - nearly any number will due, usually. Someone posted HIT20 as a code in the buy/sell forum.

Random hitmen question. Didn't know where to put it, but does anyone remember the name of the former hitmen mascot? I want to say it was Hulk, Vulk or something to that effect?
Thanks in advance

And before Vulk was Velcroman. No, I'm not joking. And no, I don't have a picture. More's the pity.

Why'd they get rid of Vulk? I assume to be more kid friendly?
My boys love Farley

Yeah. Same with Derrick on the Roughnecks side. The Flames decided those mascots intimidated children and wanted something friendlier.
Most long time Hitmen fans hated Farley for the longest time - we loved Vulk! But it's been a decade now, if you can believe it. So hardly anyone remembers Vulk anymore.

Well with Red Deer being so close and the unique setting of the Corral being attractive to many fans its not too crazy. Sounds like tons of Red Deer fans wanted to drive down and see a game in the Corral. And then in Calgary you'd have fans who don't normally go to Hitmen games who would like to see one in the Corral. So demand for this game is probably quite high and rightfully so.
