I don’t necessarily disagree re the trade.
Still steamed they are playing, we are not, and annoyed with Lindholm’s disappearing act.

full marks to Carolina... Resilient team.
Islanders should have stayed at Nassau imo... that building was a madhouse...

It really is too bad they can't stay at Nassau full time until their new arena is completed. Especially after its renovations. But I guess the team and/or league got a taste of the money from playing at Barclays.

I don't think it will make a huge difference in trade assessment, because I think Hanifin has the most potential of all the players, but I can't help but wonder if Lindholm just had his career year, and his late year struggles show he's regressing to more of the guy he was in Carolina.
Next year should be very interesting, especially if he's moved away from Gaudreau.

Carolina played great but were lucky the Isles never tied it up. They had some great chances to score and hit the post or just couldn't find the net. It's got to be in the Isles heads now.

18 shots for the win. I didnt watch the game but that's crazy low to win a playoff game.
Good on Carolina, didn't see this series starting this way at all.

Yup bunch of jerks with Hamilton dispose of the cup champs in seven, and with a backup in net steal the first two games on the road from a red hot NYI team.
Shows how weak the Flames really are.

Hard to believe that could happen, with the Canes coming off a grueling 7 game series with the Caps and Isles making short work of the Pens.
|
Isles also easily could have been up 2-0 in this series without some brutal luck. Hockey's funny that way. Carolina has worked hard no doubt, but the Isles certainly haven't been outplayed or anything, both games have been a tale of the bounces. Carolina's getting them.

If we are going to talk about luck, the Canes have been dismantled with key players being injured and have found a way to win 2 games on the road.

It was a distinct kicking motion that ended up with the puck in the net.
No goal, IMO.

Technically you could argue that, and there are many converse arguments.
One is the spirit of the rule, that the intent is to stop pucks being intentionally kicked in the net, where the intent here is to put the puck in front of the net. There is no straight line between skate and net.
You could argue that McElhinney directed it in to the net with his right pad. It wasn’t perfectly stationary. His actions resulted in the force and direction.
You also could look at many instances where the puck is obviously intentionally directed by a player who is moving forward, turns his skate and the puck goes straight in, and the goal is allowed.
I agree with the guys on the panel who have played the game and know what they are talking about.
Bad call, IMO.
(Then again, I hate legitimate, barely missed passes being called for icing. The spirit of icing is about penalizing the team who dumps the puck out to relieve pressure. However they have stopped waving those off)

Carolina only has 3 Dougie years under contract, and 1 of Ferland. They're poised to lose Ferland to free agency and have to try and scramble to get something for Fox.
Also, Carolina would have had a good year last season if they got the goaltending they've had this year. That's the biggest difference by far.
|
Every reasonable argument will be lost the moment when the Canes win that Cup in 2019. Unless the Flames are not going to win it as well in that 12 combined season, Treliving got fleeced.

We will learn a ton about Lindholm next year, especially if he centers his own line.
I wouldn’t say Carolina won the trade because they are still alive but I’m pretty certain their fans no longer care.
Their big win this year has been goaltending and coaching IMO.

Not at all. Example:
Maybe Brind’amour is a very good coach ... when it matters.

Man, you can't watch these two games and not feel sorry for the Islanders. What a stunning lack of puck luck! At the same time, Carolina playing with their ever-shrinking playoff roster and getting it done commands admiration for the team and coach. I'd pay good money to hear Trotz's uncensored locker room talk after this game...
