I don't care what the upgrades are. My point is that if they are doing any at all then do them this summer rather than +4 years from now when we are using the new arena.
funny note, My Jon Bean laughed at me when I asked about a new LED screen in the dome. That would be my first request in any upgrades.

Just think what $4.5B from the federal government could do for this town... oh wait, never mind.

And CalgaryNext was a joke? This is just flat out embarrassing for the CoC to associate themselves with. All that money and not addressing the larger needs of the city's sporting and entertainment communities.

Saddledome capital improvements in the BidCo Hosting Plan: - Accessibility upgrades for seating and washrooms
- Upgrades to power and field-of play lighting as required
- Ice plant re-commissioning
- Minor finish upgrades to concourse, club and suite levels
- Structural and mechanical capital maintenance
In the City Council Q&A session today, Shane Keating asked why the plan didn't include the new arena. It was confirmed that if a new arena is built, the hosting plan can be revised to incorporate it. Nenshi commented that in his opinion, it doesn't make sense to build a mid-sized arena for the Olympics and would make more sense to reallocate that money for other facilities.

Is Edmonton part of the bid? I skimmed over a lot but I don't see any mention of Edmonton...

I'm sure this has already been reported/discussed as it's not the first time I have heard it but my brother mentioned the other day that he heard from a very good source that there's a strong chance the team will be leaving for Seattle or Houston in the next few years.
I was furious!

I get the strong reactions to this, but I think it would be a massive mistake to scrap the plebiscite like some are suggesting. The off ramp opportunity was long ago, and now it is time for Calgarians to have their say. For me, it's still a yes.

I feel like CSEC had the timelines right and the city sat/argued on it and caused too many delays.
I can’t in good conscience support money for venues that have surpassed their lifespan. That would be dollars wasted IMHO. The dollars could end up “redirected” to new facilities but I won’t have any certainty on that when I vote. I have little trust in the current group to do what I would think prudent as a business person.
Further, I can’t support facilities outside of our province. BC would need to be a contributor.
I thought I would be a supporter and a yes on my vote but if there is no contemplation of a better legacy of facilities, I am clearly in the no camp.

The plan does not currently include a curling venue, so it could potentially be held somewhere outside Calgary, depending on how the rest of the plan shakes out.

Without a new full NHL arena this plan will not go ahead IMO

Direct from Edwards?
I get that this is a fantasy of those who think Nenshi has screwed this entire thing up, and no one thinks that more than Murr, I'd imagine, but until it makes sense from even a single angle (it doesn't), I don't believe it.

do they give a price tag on those two items in the bid doc?
Cost for a 7500 capacity arena is around $100 mm CDN. Scale that down and add in some money for the Saddledome and it sounds like the city allocating $150mm for arena to me.

Problem solved.

That particular rumour has only been around since about 1995.
