Apparently it's the week for former Flames you thought retired 3 years ago to announce their retirements.

Taking bets on the first to retire... Matt Coronato or Jaromir Jagr.

They waited until after Iggy’s HHOF induction so as to not upstage him

If a player with retained salary retires, all of the player's cap hit is removed, which includes his current team and his former team that retained salary. The exception is a player who was 35+ and signed a multi-year contract, as if that player retires the cap hit remains.
I imagine retained and bought out salary would be treated the same.

Not sure about buyout versus retention

So does the team have an extra 1.5MM in cap space then?

No, he was bought out. Buy out money is fixed regardless of what the player does afterward.

Troy brouwer plays on the same team as my female teammates boyfriend. They play div 1 and div 2. He's quite nice in person and he makes everyone look like pylons, lol through it's rec league hockey not the nhl. Congratulations on a awesome nhl career.

I think you meant "as to actually be noticed retiring since Iggy going into the HHOF is the only thing that matters"

^^ Is this the game when the Flames had a 5-0 lead in the first period and ended up losing?

Yes, but we're choosing to only focus on the important part.

Funny he picked today to retire because his most memorable moment on the Flames was against Buffalo. He lost three straight faceoffs on the PK in overtime and Eichel scored the GWG.

Got to watch that one firsthand.
