Sean McDonough, Ray Ferraro, and Emily Kaplan are the commentators for the first game.
The second game has John Buccigross, Bryan Boucher, and AJ Mleczko.

First day of the season and I’m already hoping for no 3 point game tonight
Feels great to have a full season of hockey back!

With the Flames not playing for a while I only knew the season was starting from MNF. The move to ESPN already looking good.

The off-season did feel much shorter than usual (which it obviously as well).
Still felt too long. Can’t wait to finally watch some hockey/

Plus the flames are always trash after a break
They’ll start 0-3 and the doomers will be out in full force

Flames are usually good in the home opener though right?

Flames have a weird schedule.
Don't play until the 16th when the season starts on the 12th.
Then play road game in Edmonton, home game in Calgary, before playing 5 on the East Coast. Then play 5 games at home, before going back East for a 7 game Eastern road trip.
Not sure I've ever seen the Flames play 12 of their first 19 games in the ET time zone, and 13 of their first 19 on the road.

I think the best time for long road trips is the beginning of the season. Good for bonding, and the players aren't tired.
12 of the first 19 being out east on the road means nothing but hockey for a month.

In 1995, when the Dome was renovated, they started the year with 13 out of 16 games on the road with 8 being in the eastern time zone. Ended up with a record of 2-10-4 and the season was effectively over.

Nice to see NHL back on ESPN. Also seems like Sportsnet has finally refreshed their graphics along with being in a new studio.
Disappointed the marquee graphics on the ice (Stanley Cup logo, Faceoff, etc.) seems to be a thing of the past now in favour for TV ads. That's BS.

Tampa looks sleepy. Vasilevskiy does not.
