Can teams still paper transaction players down while not making players actually physically report to Stockton?

Stone in Stockton wouldn't be awful. If he's claimed, c'est la vie.

Agreed, could be good for him or us either way.

Based on how Stone played down the stretch last season, I think there is a decent chance he gets claimed. He is a solid depth player. It would be better than losing Kyljngton though. If Stone did make it through, that would be great for the Flames though.

Stone won't get claimed. I don't know why anyone would covet him to remain on their roster after a waivers claim at this point in his career. Good depth guy to have in an organization, but nobody is going out of their way to clear a roster spot for him.

Stone would be a good role model for the kids down in California. Say what you will about his abilities at this stage of his career, but he's a consummate pro.
Maybe the organization has plans for him post-playing career? They keep bringing him back so they must like him on a personal level.
Reminds me of Dave Lowry's relationship with Sutter.

Haven’t been able to watch much of the preseason, but based on what I knew going in I’d waaaaay rather have Stone than Gudbranson, even regardless of money.

Anybody could have signed Stone
Preseason has not changed anything
They could waive Grud also and consider themselves lucky if someone claims him

Boston opens up a lot of cap if those two players get sent to the AHL; 2.75 for Moore and 1.35 for Wagner works out to just over 4 mill in cap space.

You can only bury 1.125 million of a player's salary in the minors, so this only clears 2.25 million
