I like the idea of playing Kylington with Gudbranson. He looked great with Tanev, but now let's see how he looks playing with a lower end guy. Hopefully he can still stand out. I really want him to make it this season.

Got tix to the game tonight. Likely the only live Flames hockey I'll get to see.

No Monahan. No Gaudreau. No Valimaki. Kylington with another game.
It is good to see Coleman back, and I am pleased with how much work Lord Vladar has been getting through camp.

It's training camp. The Flames season opener is more than a week away.

Beyond that I don’t see the logistics of a Zadarov - Gudbranson pairing being that successful. Two, slower, bruising stay at home Dmen on the same pairing makes little sense.

Maybe part of the reason we have slow starts is because we experiment in the preseason with things that are never going to work
Zadorov/Tanev is dumb and won’t work, let’s build chemistry and confidence with things that will
And let’s be honest, if they keep trying something this close to season start that means they are considering it for opening night. It’s too deep into training camp to just randomly be line juggling

Take a look at 3 out of the 4 forward lines as well as the goaltending setup and say that with a straight face.
Guys need rest, other guys need reps, and there are game limits for players. All teams do this. Pre-season lines are a nonsense thing to complain about.

All of this could be true. It's probably more likely that it is not.

Those lines reflect the lack of availability of certain players so IMO they do give a legitimate glimpse of what lines they would use should those same players be out for a regular season game.
I'm not going to tell people what to complain about and IMO we are absolutely seeing line and pairing combos that the coaches believe can work. They're not random.

I still think it is weird and shortsighted to complain about coaching decisions in training camp. Every coach does his own thing and has his own plan to get the team ready for the season. It is also hard to read too much into veteran performances, or the performance of new players because they too have their own process for getting up to speed for Game #1. Sutter is one of the longest working, most accomplished coaches in the game today; this makes me think that what he is doing in pre-season Game #7 is more than likely a better approach than what any anonymous fans posting on this site would prefer to see.
