Dare I say this is a steal in modern contracts for the Canucks. They signed him when he was at his lowest and if I were him I'd be quite annoyed at his agent. On a three year deal he'd be worth closer to $9M. Good job on that negotiation by the Canucks, as it's nothing but a low risk at the price paid. The guy is skilled AF.

You do understand he is a RFA right? No chance he's worth $9 million.
Hughes contract was good, this is a bad contract.

Fact is he has never played a full season or had more than 66 points. Until he does he isn't getting 9M
We can talk when he has a 90 point season

Elias pettersson has 72 career pp points and 81 EVS points. He is a pp specialist.

How about career numbers?
Pettersen’s career PPG: .95
Tkachuk career PPG: .8
EP plays a premium position and has an all-world skill set that’s well suited to the modern game.
Not close for me which player I’d take to build my team around.

32 GMS in the league would take Mathew Tkachuk.

He's far better at even strength than on the PP.

Now you guys can post how his lower totals are because he gets hurt every season like that is a positive

How come you always downplay other players who aren't Flames? Pete is a good player. We'd be lucky to have him on the Flames. Chucky is a good player. We're lucky to have him on the Flames.

He played 68/69 games in his 2nd year...only 6 Canucks played all 69.
Obviously injuries are a concern, but he wouldn't be the first flyweight to fill out a bit as he gets into his mid 20s...the friggin kid hasn't even turned 23 yet.
And AFAIK he's only had a minor knee injury and a wrist injury (while in the NHL)...nothing particularly concerning long-term...
Btw, can you guys believe Gordie Howe never even scored 50 goals in a season!?!?!? Talk about overrated.

I wonder if someone from the media will ask how much he weights when he shows up in Vancouver.

Somebody else brought up that he is "way better" than Tkachuk not me. (like every other player signed who is "way better than X Flames player despite worse numbers")
I was just responding to somebody
Tkachuck's best season is better until it isn't...plus all the other stuff he does. Yes they are both good players obviously
They are paying for potential he hasn't reached yet, nobody can deny that. If he puts up 80+ come back here and say how great it is.

Damn. Tre should have offered sheet at 8.2.
Trade Mony for a 1st.
Give up a 1st, 2nd, 3rd to the Canucks. I'd do that deal all day long.

I think this contract is right around where it should be barring he can stay healthy. That is a big if. If he can be healthy he will produce 75-85 points but he hasn't been able to stay healthy yet. But they definitely had to keep him and he is a top line offensive player. I liked the Hughes contract more than this one mainly because of injury concerns. He does have the capability of earning the contract easily though.

They just would have matched and then done the same to Tkachuk.

Doubt it. They had the chance to draft him…
