Fair deal for both sides. Elias contract should start with a 6 if this contract is a comparable.

Nah, this is too much money for 6. It would be okay for 7, and a team friendly deal for 8. But for 6? Nah. Not a good price for the team.

I believe it only buys one year for the same reason he couldn't get an offer sheet, he didn't play enough games in the first year of his contract. Even though he played through a 3-year contract, he only accrued 2 years of experience. He'd be eligible for UFA with 7 years of experience, so a 6 year deal will only buy one UFA year.

Either way, he'll be a UFA when this deal ends and he signs with the Devils.
