Default What Blockbuster or Highly Rated Movie Have You Never Watched?

Sitting here watching Terminator for the first time ever... haha. I've watched all the other Terminator movies but not sure why I've never watched the 1st one.

Only watched this year:
Django Unchained & Jackie Brown- Huge Tarantino fan but was too busy or forgot to watch. hmm maybe not a great Tarantino fan.
Green Mile- Not sure why. I had it on DVD and Blu-Ray numerous times before
Taxi Driver, Scarface, Godfather 1,2,3 - Can't believe I never watch these before but since my Shaw package includes the old movie channel finally pvrd.
Bladerunner- holy crap was this slow and boring. no wonder..

Never watched:
Reservoir Dogs
Apocalypse Now
Memento, The Prestige, Interstellar
Platoon
Shape of Water
Psycho
Clerks/Mallrats
Iron Giant
Edward Scissorhands/Nightmare before Christmas
Any of the Daniel Craig Bond movies after Casino Royale. I don't even know the names of them. I really liked Casino Royale also.

Will never watch:
Avatar- watched the opening 30 mins like 20 times showing off my new 3D tv. haha but I'll never finish it.

Yeah, they are awful. I forced myself to get caught up on Star Wars when I was battling insomnia this year. Just terrible. I actually kind of enjoyed the Solo spinoff movie though.

I haven't watched many of the big films released in the past 5 years. I probably haven't even heard of them. I am sure many people with young children can relate to that.

Never watched Braveheart, not sure if I ever will.

Reservoir Dogs is great but if you don't like Tarantino movies your mileage may vary.
Memento is a great movie but make sure you don't have any distractions, one of those movies you need to pay attention to. Well worth the time investment IMO.

I have watched nothing Harry Potter related.

I'm not sure how many Bond films I've watched in their entirety, but I don't think there are very many pre-Craig. I've seen two of the Craig ones -- Casino Royale and whichever one it is where he goes to Istanbul. I watched that one on the flight over to Amsterdam on the way to Instanbul.

Just for fun, I checked the AFI's top 100 films of the first 100 years to see how many I've seen. 71 of 100.

https://www.afi.com/afis-100-years-100-movies/

Lots of the ones I haven't seen are from the 30's and 40's, so it's not shocking, but some of them are Chaplin or Hitchcock films that I really should sit down and watch, just for reference (Double Indemnity, North by Northwest, City Lights, Modern Times)

Some notables that I have not yet seen:

17. The African Queen
21. The Grapes of Wrath
27. Bonnie and Clyde
30. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
39. Doctor Zhivago
41. West Side Story
57. The Third Man
64. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
69. Shane
88. Easy Rider

I guess my question is, which of these are "must watch". Which should I start with?

I haven't watched any of the recent Fast & Furious movies, or the spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw. I think Fast Five was the last one I saw. I just have no desire whatsoever to finish the series.

Not sure if they count as blockbuster but I haven't seen a single one of the new superhero movies. None of the Avengers, Marvel, whatever they are. Last comic book movie I saw was the Dark Knight

I guess my question is, which of these are "must watch". Which should I start with?
I’ve seen all of them.

Highly recommended:

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre - Takes a while to get going, but it’s a classic high-stakes suspense film. Gritty and intense. Will help explain why Bogart was such a big star. With its unsympathetic protagonist, feels like a more modern movie.

The Third Man - Another shades-of-grey morality movie. A thinky, rather than emotional film. Rightfully famous for its post-war Vienna setting and unsettling cinematography.

Doctor Zhivago - Classic big-canvas historical epic of sort they genuinely don’t make anymore. Looks amazing. Great score. Larger-than-life set pieces and melodrama. Save for a winter evening with a pot of tea.

Not missing much:

Bonnie and Clyde - Badly dated. Built its reputation on shocking (for the time) violence, which just looks cheesy today. Otherwise dull and ugly.

West Side Story - Unless you like musicals and cringey, patronizing depictions of urban ethnic communities you’re not missing anything.

Easy Rider - Even more dated than Bonnie and Clyde. Amateur and low-budget, and not in a good way. I guess if it was the first time you saw hippies smoking pot in a movie, it would have been pretty groundbreaking stuff. Otherwise its self-indulgent crap.

The others on the list are worth watching, but nothing spectacular IMHO.

Just checked, and I’ve seen 88 of 100 (Casablanca was my local videostore in my 20s).

Can’t say I feel any great deficiency in not having seen Yankee Doodle Dandy or the Jazz Singer. But I should probably get around to watching Duck Soup and A Streetcar Named Desire.

I hope you used those many, many hours of your life that you didn't use on the MCU that the rest of humanity did well.

That's a lot of time you saved, in a way.

I wasn't even much of a fan in the first half of the twenty-some movies. Thought aside form RDJ's Stark that the characters were not well fleshed out and not worth the investment people were putting into them. Another half decade later I'm researching stories behind these guys and reading up about rumors on future installments.

Don't know whether to hate on Marvel for 'hooking' me finally, or thank them for the continuing output of entertainment.

I think it's more positive than negative as the content seems to bring people together and is a fun escape for the most part.

1. The Matrix (tried twice; it bored us and we both dozed off)
2. Pulp Fiction

…I know.

I was going to post this AFI list as I've had the idea that I'm going to watch all that I haven't seen, starting with 100 and moving towards 1. That's going to take some time as I've only seen 40 of them.

After just recently watching North by Northwest, Rear Window, and Chinatown I feel pretty silly having not seen these classics before.

I just recorded Lawrence of Arabia: Director's Cut. For someone that knows, is it markedly different or better than the theatrical cut?

A podcast I like has been recapping them and I decided to watch along from the beginning. I made it to Tokyo Drift and had to quit. They're pretty awful although I hear they get better.
