Honestly if I were the Habs I’d let him go. He scored at a 29 point pace last season. Take the picks and move on. That’s a terrible contract.

Bahahahahahahahaha! Bunch of jerks.
To be fair though, Aho’s deal was quite palatable IMO. This one is just gross.

It’s pretty brilliant. The Habs basically have to match as they can’t let him go with their C situation.
This is likely what would happen way more often if GMs really wanted to win and not try and belong to the hockey old boys club.

Carolina's tweet should have been word for word the same as Bergevin's, even with Aho and Canadiens crossed out and replaced with JK and Hurricanes

Unless he signs the offer sheet it means nothing. Petty by Carolina.

He has signed the offer sheet. They don't announce it unless the player signs.
Montreal has 1 week to match or take the compensation.

The issue I can see is that Kotkanunspellable was a high draft pick and its likely that Carolina's 1st is likely going to be mid-range at best next season, but it would be advantageous to the Habs to not be saddled with that contract.

OK. I never noticed that. Then if I am Montreal I let him go and the RFA offer next season transfers to Carolina and they have to offer him over $6.1M.

No clue what the player is thinking, if the Habs match the offer...
Could be some hard feelings, he is not the same type of player as Aho.
With a $6m price tag, crap load of pressure in Montreal

Yeah, the only downside for the player is that he gets paid $6.1M either in Carolina or Montreal and his upcoming Qualifying Offer is going to be enormous.
He probably couldnt sign that fast enough. It puts the player in a great position.
