I watched “The Impossible” last night. I don’t think I’ve had a movie wreck me as much as this one did. I don’t know if it’s because I have two young boys or if I was the right mood for it but wow what an absolute emotional rollercoaster. Anybody ever watch this one?
What movies pack a gut punch for you?

Trade, which is a human trafficking movie starring Kevin Kline is both criminally under-rated and a film that has stuck with me, and not necessarily in a good way. I found it incredibly disturbing and upsetting. But it's a helluva movie.
Kevin Kline is an actor that deserves more credit.
For some reason that's the first movie that came to mind for the question.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
The ending of this movie had me in tears when Bruno sneaks into the concentration camp to visit Shmuel, and they are sent to a gas chamber by Nazi soldiers.

The Impossible did it for me as well. I watched it around the time my kids were your kid's age. It definitely added to the impact of the movie on me.
My Life with Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman gets me for similar reasons. A man with terminal cancer trying to wrap up his life and impart his knowledge on his unborn son through videos. Though I remember watching it in high school and it still hitting me.
The Impossible was an emotional rollercoaster for me as well, but I too have 2 young boys so it hit me right in the feels. Criminally underrated movie for sure, its really well done.
