Default Baguettes

After watching this video, I went to see what Baguettes I could find and I only found some terrible bland, pale, wonder-bread tasting Baguettes that managed to be soggy on the inside and stale on the outside at the local Real Canadian Stupidstore.

Where can one find authentic and fresh French baguettes in this city?

Yes, would also be interested. Cobs are pretty good but they go with the ultra thing style where you can't cut a decent piece. I don't mind slicing in half and cutting it that way with a big slab, but prefer a baguette that you can just slice pieces off of.

I believe Coop still carries ACE bakery stuff and from what I remember there baguette and breads are pretty good although it has been a while since I've bought that stuff.

While I recognize this is of marginal helpfulness, if you ever find yourself in Edmonton check out Elanor and Laurent. The baguettes are amazing.

I haven't tried Bread Culture yet, but their baguettes look solid. Sadly, they got hit with water damage last big storm and are closed for the next while.

I would suggest Boulangerie on 4th street in Mission... Everything I've had there has always been fantastic.

This is the best bakery for bread in Calgary.

RCSS has frozen ACE baguettes. They're worth getting.

Don't forget some good butter, cheeses and jam if you're going to do it right. Their croissants are stuff of legend also.

They're also in their original location in Kensington attached the the Kensington Market across from Safeway.

I know what I am doing next Saturday. Putting cheese and jam into my bike saddle bag and biking to East Village to get coffee from Phil & Sebastians and a baguette from Sidewalk Citizen (I didn't know they were a bakery) and then eating it by the river with odd looks from passerbys.

alforno bakery has some good baguettes, same with wow bakery. i'm not sure how authentically french they are, but they are still very good.

Safeway bread is junk, more like a cracker than a bread.

Costco also has decent baguettes for the big box grocery store bakery.

Second Black Sheep.

Owner and baker is from Paris. Their croissants are also the best. Don't even get me started on their tiramisu either!
