The old stand by for Brad. Only if they want to sign will they come. Do you think he would have signed here for 2 million a year? Of course he would have. So my statement is true, anybody could have had him. Unless you think that Duclair left money on the table to sign in Florida. In your scenario Anthony desperately wanted a one year deal with Florida and took it and was unwilling to sign elsewhere for more money or more term.

I am not surprised at all this is happening and I am so glad we traded him to Florida and not within the division. I agree that Bennett needed a fresh start and we have seen it before with Turris, Strome as former top picks who struggled on their teams and became solid point producers in Ottawa and Chicago.

No idea
I just think it’s a large assumption to state.
He’s also a guy who’s production widely fluctuates so he’s not a guy I would have targeted to sign

Thanks for posting this, it is really nice to get an outside perspective. A lot of people giving the other 2 credit but maybe we need to give Sam some credit too. It is possible Sam felt stuck and discouraged as a Flame and felt like he couldn't be himself. I can't tell you how many times I watched Sam and felt like he was holding back. Small sample size, but he is looking much energized!

Why would you say something is not true and then say you have no idea whether that previous statement that you stated was not true is true or not. Perplexing.
He was coming off of a 23 goal season after he had a 19 goal season. Not seeing the wild fluctuations.

Because it’s not true that “anyone could have had him”
As a free agent that choice was his
Anyone could have had him within the group of teams he was willing to sign with
We don’t know if he would have considered the Flame or not

Not every post about Sam is someone being negative about the guy. Huberdeau is a great player. Not sure how you take that as a shot against Bennett. Really weird.
|
It’s how your post came across on first read, sounded like the reason for his production was all due to others
Heck yes, we agree they are better linemates than he got here
While Huberdeau is better than Johnny now, Johnny is better than Johnny now. This team is rotten. There is a whole thread dedicated to the GM having brought them to this point and whether he should take them any further
Pretty much every Flame is underachieving and it is nice to see the guys you cheer for get a chance outside of this lousy org just to see what they are capable of when managed competently

It's Huberdeau - Bennett - Duclair

He signed for less in Florida than he was offered in Ottawa so why would he come to Calgary when he can choose a place that is a lot more open (in terms of pandemic life) and a place that offered him a big opportunity.
It is not an old standby for Brad it is a straight up fact that Calgary is not a desirable location for NHL players.

Well we know Brad was in on it though, because he is always working and is in on everything. That has been gospel in some parts for awhile, so it must be true.
I am guessing, just a guess, that a free agent that was unsigned more than 2 months into free agency probably had an expensive list of teams that he was willing to sign with at that point. Just a hunch though.

Good for Bennett. I mean, who wouldn’t be happy? Traded from Calgary and going to a great city, being a young guy making millions in Florida and on a good team with a great prospect base.
I’ve been watching Florida a bit more this year and they are definitely an exciting team to watch. I truly hope it’s either the a Panthers or the Leafs(Brodie and BSD) who take this cup this year, since the Flames won’t be in the playoffs.

Or just you manufacturing something else out of nothing
Real stuff isn’t enough so let’s make up things to also blame BT for.
He turned down Ottawa
Maybe he had a list of teams he was willing to join particularly when the money became less than he thought it would be
Maybe he didn’t want to play in Canada
Maybe he likes warmer weather
Maybe he felt he’d get a better opportunity with the Panthers
I don’t know
Neither do you

That goes without saying Jiri. Heck, I’m not a millionaire and I’d choose Miami now if I could.

Duclair has done a few podcasts talking about his off-season
He acted as his own agent and it fell through pretty publicly with Ottawa. In the end it came down to Nashville or Florida
He's said others were interested but since he was his own agent, only he really knows what teams were interested and what he was offered, but from his own words it seemed like those were the only two teams he considered

We have our Duclair. His name is Josh Leivo. Duclair was not the guy that was going to be the difference in our season. You're just making up reasons to hate on Tre if you think failing to sign Duclair in the offseason was a blemish.
