Default Tegan and Sara TV Series "High School"

I didn't see a thread for this, but maybe it is buried somewhere. It debuts on Amazon FreeVee on October 14, 2022. Trailer below.

https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movi...er-1234587849/

The TV show is based on their biography about growing up and attending high school in Calgary in the 1990s. It also goes into the early stages of their musical writing.

I am not really a high school drama kind of person, but have been a fan of theirs for many years and really enjoy their music. Wasn't really into "Closer", but love their other stuff.

Aside from that, I think it will be pretty cool to see a show both filmed and set in Calgary.

"Tegan didn't go to school today......" <3

Their book is really good and I'm super excited to see the show. It's not going to be totally biographical but I think it'll be very entertaining. Plus the soundtrack will be all 90s era stuff.

T&S are doing a mini accoustic concert and showing the first 3 eps at CIFF at the end of the month too.

Just curious, but is “Calgary” ever mentioned? I read the Rolling Stone articles about the book and tv show and there was nothing.

I haven’t read the book, but the series is set in and filmed in Calgary, so I assume it will indeed be mentioned on the show.

I had no idea they even had a biography. I'll have to read it as they grew up only a couple blocks from where I did, but were a bit older so I never really met them. I can sort of remember that they threw a summer party and were playing No Doubt really loud, it was probably the coolest party the neighborhood had at the time, which isn't sayin much, it was only about 5 years old. It's kind of crazy how long they've been "Calgary famous".

I hung out with them via mutual friends once and one of them worked at A&B sound so I spoke with her briefly a couple times after that. They seemed very nice, I'm glad they gained success.

I miss A&B Sound.

A&B Sound was the best.

It was Sara that worked there.

Man, I used to love going down to the giant A&B Sound on Stephen Ave. I must have spent a fortune in that store.

you'll like this old Moe Berg blog post from about 5 years ago, about how he loved hanging out and visiting record stores. (but also that kids today have it better)

Watched the first ep this morning and thought it was really well done.
Captured high school life perfectly.

Watched a few eps last night, very authentic to 90s Calgary, and an entertaining story to boot. only 2 nit picks so far that are definitely not Calgary.

Their mom said she needed to "pay the hydro bill" this isn't Ontario.

And they made mention of wearing their shoes in their bedrooms in the winter. this isn't America

Also recognize all the outdoor sets and they are struggling a little bit with geography, but it's pretty good, rare that you grew up so close to a shows setting that you can pick up on where they are / what their doing...

Especially during that particular time period. I graduated high school in '93, so I was a couple of years ahead of the Quin sisters. But the show perfectly captures the feel of being a teenager in 90s-era Calgary/western Canada.

The little details and easter eggs are a lot of fun. For example, there's a scene where one of the sisters is wearing a Red Autumn Fall t-shirt, and I was like holy crap, I haven't heard that band's name since probably 1995 or thereabouts.

I'm a little younger than the Tegan and Sara demographic but I consider myself lucky to have been old enough to at least been inside the downtown A&B sound once just on the verge of it closing.

It still leaves an impression on me today with how majestic that record store was inside.

Here's an Imgur album with rare photos. I don't remember it being that green though. I thought it was dark grey.

Those photos bring back some great memories of hanging out down there. The only other record store I’ve been in that rivals it is Amoeba Records in L.A.

They ate Chicken on the Way on the show! Albeit, it's a modern box.

The U of C science theatres scene could have been straight out of 1975.

I was wondering where that was. Looked so familiar but I couldn't place it.

The Chicken on the Way box was great attention to detail. Not many viewers would have recognized that, even of those from Calgary.
