Default Unlocking a deceased friend’s iPhone.

Hey guys.

Recently I had a friend pass away, and although I wouldn’t call his death suspicious by any means, there is a lot of uncertainty about his last few hours. His family and I are trying to access his cell phone which be like shed a lot of light on the situation, and I was wondering if anyone knew the best way of doing this?
We can apparently get transferred access to his Apple account with a death certificate but I believe that wouldn’t help as it would only give us access to anything backed up on his iCloud.
If anyone has any suggestions at all please let me know. His family and I would be very grateful.

You can unlock the phone once you have his Apple ID and password

Unfortunately that is also an issue. We don't have that information. I have a pretty good idea of his Apple ID, but no clue on the password.

If you know his email login info you may be able to reset his password.

Does he maybe have a laptop or anything that would auto log on to his Apple account with a saved password

If he’s on a Mac, and you know the computer login password, you might have luck with the “Keychain Access”. It will have all the passwords saved on the Mac. It might give you access to his email and that password. You’d then be able to unlock the phone.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Going further than this, the browser should have the saved passwords.

I wonder if you could log into his iCloud manually, force a back up and get later info (ie: messages)? Or use it to log into other things of his (ie: email) and reset the password/pin?

There's also the grease method. Look to see if there's large blots of oil on the screen that might give an indication of the PIN.

The picture or fingerprint method there are some methods to attempt to spoof and get into a phone on Youtube I guess you could try.

Maybe you shouldn't. There is a reason why people lock their phones. Even in death he/she deserves their privacy.

FaceID uses LIDAR and Thermal Scanning. A picture does nothing.
