Forget TVs, London drugs has one of the best selections of chocolate in the city.

While not an expensive item, their passport picture service was great. Felt much better than at [big chain] or the camera store previously.

Took the picture, decided on the camera it wouldn't work. Took another. Printed it out. Suggested we do one more because that one didn't "look good enough". So we did one more. He liked it and commented, "There's no way they send this one back!" (And they didn't )

While we were there about 10 minutes longer, just made me feel good to receive service with enthusiasm and honesty.

London Drugs - Royal Oak.

Thread reminded me that I needed to buy something. Went to their website and they have a great daily deal on Sony bluetooth headphones for $60.

It's a great store, they have a little bit of everything.

It's such a mish-mash that sometimes I can't figure out their angle and it falls off my radar when I'm looking for something because they'll have a small selection of food, a strange random selection of furniture, a small selection of appliances, and I forget their AV department has a small selection of computer/videogame stuff as well as high-end audiophile equipment and a listening room.

That eclectic selection is great but it causes the store to not be on the top of my mind when I'm thinking of buying something. When I needed a cassette tape last year, they were the only place that carried them though.

For music fans, London Drugs with AV departments has a decent selection of new vinyl records and turntables which is something I'll go browse at 9:30PM when everything else is closed.

I think they would have been well within their right to say no, but I'm glad that they came through for you. Way to go London Drugs.

Great store, but given how much competition there is in that space, and how wide they cast their net, I can see them not surviving the next decade without radical adjustment. (Be it in the product diversity they carry, removing some departments, or expanding online better).

Its like a time warp to 1998 in that store.

I live right behind a London Drugs, and try to shop there whenever I can. I like the store, the prices are good and the staff are good.

They are basically like a smaller more local version of Wal Mart. They tend to be in walk-able locations(like the beltline one). They are much easier to shop at though.

To be fair London Drugs will pass on the cost of the return to the supplier. Costco and Wal Mart have redefined the game of returns. It's essentially became a consignment agreeement with a lot of manufacturers. If it gets returned or does not sell within a certain time period the manufacturer gets the bill/return.

But still, I like London Drugs and have had good experiences there.

Even their brand new one up in Sage Hill feels like a store from the 90's. I think it's great. It reminds me of going to the Beddington one when I was a kid.

Sad to hear that the downtown location is going to be shutting down...

"powerviolence
If you are referring to the one on 8th St, got some bad news for ya. They are going to be shutting that one down."

Interesting timing of this thread though:

So I picked up my new TV...they go on to tell me about how they're clearing out this amplifier for $99. (A $400-500 savings)

https://www.amazon.ca/Harman-Kardon-.../dp/B00CMNZHEC

I bought that too, London Drugs is now my go to electronics store. This coming from a guy that barely set foot in a London Drugs, save for a random deal on a TV 6 months ago.

I understand this place now.

That sucks. I go to that location all the time. I get packages delivered there and never leave without buying something else.

I noticed that Reddit thread too. Cool coincidence.

They have a great selection of vinyls too for the music geeks out there.

I love London Drugs! I still remember back in 1998, a friend and I were driving all around town looking for a copy of Starcraft Broodwar on release night. Everywhere we checked was sold out. In a last ditch effort we checked out the Beddington London Drugs' electronics department. Lo and behold, they had like a dozen copies left! Ever since then I usually check out their video game stock.

Mid to late 90s, London Drugs was absolutely the best place to get PC games.

From my memory, it was the only place to get video games. But that was because we came in from Canmore, and I think it was one of the few places my mom would stop at with an electronics section. Picked up Final Fantasy 1 and 2 there, along with others. But those stick in my mind.
