Default House of the Dragon (GoT Prequel)

“House of the Dragon” is set 200 years prior to the events of “Game of Thrones” and tells the story of House Targaryen and the Targaryen civil war that became known as the “Dance of the Dragons.” HBO has given the series a 10-episode order, and confirmed Tuesday during a launch event for HBO Max in Europe that the show will launch in 2022.

It is based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood.”

I liked Fire and Blood, even though it reads more like a history book than a novel.

Is it just a 10 Episode mini series or that's the first season?

I wonder if they'll have any of the characters from GoT in it? I guess Melisandre is a possibility. She is 400 years old in GoT?

It does read like GRRM was trying to write an outline for a TV series, it gave a lot of glimpses into a lot of great characters that I would love to see get fleshed out in the show.

GoT was always great at getting all the little details perfect, but got bad quick the further it strayed from GRRMs story and he kept the story concise enough that he didn't get swamped with a million little story arcs he doesn't know how to resolve. GRRM can also contribute with story and scripts. Hopefully both sides are playing to their strengths on this one and it'll come out great.

I'm still more excited for Wheel of Time.

It's all about execution and quality. Better Call Saul turned out well but it had the advantage of using existing characters. Will this new series have compelling characters on the level of Tyrion, Cersei, etc? Time will tell.

Had no idea this was even happening, last i heard it (or I now assume another show) was cancelled

Honestly I think I'm just as interested to see if HBO can turn this into the pop culture phenomenon GOT was

There were actually two cancelled GoT spinoffs - The Long Night and Flea Bottom. It sounded as though the former had a lot of resources put into it.

It's such a compelling universe.

It's really too bad they ran out of source material. At least this has some behind it.

The key to this coming near the same level of success, and what carried the main series, is the complexity of the characters and their interactions with one another.

^ I thought it was the gratuitous nudity in the early years and the dragons in the later years

I mean, Emilia Clarke boobs ten minutes in didn't exactly hurt the cause.

Official trailer is out. Looks amazing with high production values that'd you'd expect from the series. Since its based on a story that's already completed (so writers can take their time and adapt) and Miguel Sapochnik is at the helm, I am cautiously optimistic for this.

I can’t wait for the inevitable “racist trolls review bomb new GoT prequel”.

The incest will be next level.

70% of everybody on the show is a Targaryen.
