Default 2014 Skiing Thread

Thought I'd start this up since Freshtival 2013 is now online and Fall has officially begun.

www.freshtival.ca

Trailers!

Also some early season pass sales. The RCR pass sale is on until October 19 - you can get a 4 resort pass - Fernie, Kicking Horse, Kimberley and Nakiska) for $1159, or tack on Lake Louise for an extra $270 (5 mountains for 1429), which seems like a heckuva deal: https://secure.skircr.com/pass_types...js=1&season=13.

The Louise pass itself is $899 until October 15, which is $200 off regular price: http://www.skilouise.com/lake-louise-season-passes.php. No details on the Louise card yet, but I suspect it'll be similar to last year (http://www.skilouise.com/benefits/).

Castle's pass is $749 until September 30 and Revelstoke is $759 until Oct 1.

Personally I'm torn between the RCR Super Pass and just going with Louise and RCR cards because I ski Castle. If only Castle was part of that 5 resort pass it'd be a no-brainer.

2 goals for this year.

Stomp butter 3's consistently and stomp a front flip. Haven't attempted either of these but I've never been much of a tricks guy. Butter 3's are just so slick and they look like a lot of fun.

At this point "Skiing" is like saying "hey guys" when there are girls around. Snowboarding is implied.

Also this is a thread for bragging about your offseason purchases. I'm stoked on new boots.

I hate new boots. They're terrifying.

Hence why I have had the same boots for 7 or 8 years now.

Same - scares the crap out of me so I never do it. My previous boots are XWave era (2007) Salomon Guns. But these are the boots, man. They're the ones. The boot is like 1500 grams. It feels like a shoe. I'll still ride my old ones - just going to get new liners for them and just put them into retirement - i.e. they're now just for easy resort days.

I bought these at the end of last season but only used them once. They are super comfortable.

I then bought this board and am looking forward to using it soon!

And these bindings

Can't wait for the tgr movie by the way. I love their ski movies. Their snowboard movies are a little boring. Almost as if their snowboard athletes aren't as crazy as their skiers

I am told that Into the Mind is by far the movie of the year. Which makes sense because their last project was great and this one took twice as long.

Anyway, the winner of TGR's Co-Lab Contest was announced earlier this week. The contest gave $100,000 to whatever athlete (pro or not) could put together the best edit in 5 minutes. The field of entries was narrowed to 21 by taking the top 18 voted entries in terms of public votes, and adding 3 others selected by TGR. Then those 21 athletes themselves ranked their favourites among the edits that were left, and whoever got ranked the best on aggregate got the $100 G's.

Dale Talkington was the leading vote-getter in the first stage, and ended up winning the contest altogether. Which was apparently controversial because there's no big mountain skiing in his edit. But all I know is nobody does a cork 9 onto a f*#$@ing roof, so I'm on board.

I hope everyone in this thread has emailed Parks Canada regarding the Goat's Eye Lodge proposal at Sunshine.

Further explanation required since my general preference is to pretend that Sunshine doesn't even exist.

Source has a Giant Factory sale going on across from Chinook Center (by the purple Le Chateau). The sale ends in a couple of weeks. 50% off clothing and ski wear. Boards on sale. Bindings 40% off.

I prefer that the riff-raff stay at the main village.

The Burton Genesis bindings are junk. I snapped my heel cup the first week I had them, either from cold weather or impact. The custom is a deadly board though.

Haven't decided what I'm doing for gear this year, but all my stuff from last year will be on sale pretty quickly.

I should be pretty easy to spot on the hill this year.

Already had the pants, but grabbed the jacket to complete the suit.

Anyone who needs a tuneup Sports Rent is running a $20 complete tuneup special for all of October. I work there and for the last couple of years we have done this special for only a week and typically get around 60 skis in. We want to crush that number this year and have the experienced staff who can handle large amounts of tuneups. Sorry if this seems a little like spam but I didn't want to hide that I work there and it actually is a great deal for a complete ski tune.
