Default Leafs 2 Flames 1 (OT)

Game Takes: Leafs 2 Flames 1 (OT)

- Vladar stands on his head, the Flames have something there
- Good rebound game for the Flame's top line
- Kylington scores the goal, but also coughs up the game tying goal.

Oh man I thought the top line was really bad again outside of Gaudreau. Maybe the advanced stats disagree with that but I thought they were bad.

Yeah, I agree that Lindholm kept looking to get rid of the puck, and Tkachuk was downright invisible aside from a few shot attempts from the outside. But Gaudreau's pass on the goal? Magical.

Hockey stats card has the Flames good players as Vladar , Gaudreau and Kylington with Gaudreau and Kylington below their yearly average.

Tkachuk had a "fine" game with a .09 game score well below his average 1.4 and Lindholm a "fine" game, within hailing distance of a good game GS of .67 below his average of 1.39

They also have Backlund and Zaradov as outright Bad and 9 Flames as having a poor game.

the great thing about fancy stats is that they can be sliced and diced and then analyzed multiple ways.

PS Natural stat trick

Has the Lindholm line at x GF% at 43.9% rather than 61.9
Monahan line at 69.8 rather than 83.3
Backlund line at 37.8
Richardson line at 25.7

Flames even strength xGF% was 39.86

The top line had a high danger split of 5/6-1 on the game five on five but I agree Gaudreau was the better of the three.

All of them get credit for not giving up much.

Nobody is saying that.

The stats run just gives some context. A line can be stuck in their own zone more than they'd like giving the eye test a correct read on a tough night, but sometimes when you dig deeper you see they didn't give up the blue chip chances.

Doesn't change the fact that it looks like they got worked, but maybe they stayed structured while getting out played.

Vladar should be playing every fourth game.
Marstrom plays better when he is more rested.

If it was not for the four more years on the Marstrom contract it would be interesting to wondering if in 2023-24 you had a tandem of Vladar and Wolf. Tallest goalie and shortest goalie sharing the crease. Sort of like:

Something about Tkackuk’s game this season. Just leaves you wanting more.

I was partially joking. A guy like Tkachuk is supposed to generate scoring chances and cash in. Not giving up blue chip chances is good but that is not enough. His passes rarely connect and he looks inadequate compared to Matthews and Nylander who are his peers. You can say the same with Lindholm who somehow has gone quiet

totally agree. Last night, he went with the blind, behind-the-back, pass to no one, multiple times. It resulted in a turnover pretty much every time.

I don't care what the high danger splits were, the top line got buried in their own zone all night long. They got owned. Gaudreau was good, but didn't have the puck much, because Lindholm and Tkachuk were not good.

Mangiapane was dangerous all night.

It was a real shame to see Kylington have a game-breaking shift like that, only to give it back with an unfortunate turnover the next shift. He felt terrible after the game, when he should have been feeling like a rock star.

Good hockey game overall, and they probably deserved a point. But it would be hard to argue that they deserved to win. So take the point and move on.

I think Lindholm looks like he's playing hurt. Somethings off with him .
Vladar looked poised, calm .
Got that point but....should have gotten 2.
