Default Downtown Parking

Just got a new job in northern downtown. All the parking I’ve found is $400+/month.

Anyone have any secret spots/life hacks?

^We're going into winter, both of those ideas suck.

Astounding that -- despite downtown being at almost 30% vacancy right now -- the cost of parking is still absurd.

Check out Impark's map, you can probably score something between $275 and $300 a month, although a good deal of it might be surface lots with unreserved spots. YMMV. Calgary Parking Authority has a similar map system as well where you can register.

That'd be my suggestion.

Riverwalk Parkade - very cheap and very nice parkade under the Alt Hotel in East Village.

If I understand that though you can only have 10 days in one parkade per month per vehicle.

So either you'd have to take two different vehicles, or have 2 different contracts in 2 different parkades (and I'm not sure if they allow that).

my office is on 5th and 5th - no cheap parking around there, but it looks like when the dust settles the expectation will be about 1 day per week in the shop.

i put my time in one the bus

Not sure by "northern downtown" what you're actually referring to, but I use to park at the Calgary Place Apartments (900 block of 6th Ave SW) for $13 + GST for daily parking. It's ~$230 for unreserved monthly parking.

I also used to make use of https://parkchamp.ca/; parking at Atrium I (corner of 5th Ave & 8th St SW) was $12/day with a "small car discount". Heated, underground, secure.

About the cheapest you'll find is along 9th Ave. The Continental Towers parkade (900 block) is $9/day. Obviously you're going to have a bit of a walk if you're working in 'northern downtown', but that's about as cheap as it gets.

Back in the day, several co workers would park at the Curling Rink and then cross the bridge at Eau Claire to get to the northern part of downtown.

If you find a spot that seems too good to be true, it probably is. The sheer number of people who call to report their car stolen, because "I've been parking here forever and never had a problem/gotten a ticket/been towed/told I couldn't park here before" is pretty high. If you street park, pay close attention to the signs and times on them.
