Weisbrod said there were two players they really wanted in the 2nd round; Button suggests possibly "a few", including Matt Finn and Sieloff.

Doesn't mean much, except for fans to follow these guys to see who turns out better in the long run.

Kinda like Backlund/Lars Eller, Nemisz/Josh Bailey, Irving/Bernier/Helenius/Varlymov - the former obviously being the guy the Flames took, and the latter being guys Darryl targeted, in addition to the player they chose

that's what I said, or what I meant. During post draft interviews with Sutter, he usually mentioned the player or players they wanted, and all those names were on their list

Some high praise from Jim Cummins on Jon Gillies "I think he's the top prospect of all the goalies in the draft"

Well, GM's and those like the Conroy's and Wisebrod's who are in the main office and out in the public occasionally look fine, but yeah, you can tell on TV who the scouts are that usually wear golf shirts and khakis as they drive from town to town, and then have to scramble to put an off the rack suit they bought 3 years ago when they weighed 20 or 30 lbs less or more.

Among players drafted 2005-08, only 30 players -- 6% -- taken outside the top 100 have played 100 NHL games.

Now that is up to 68 total, which is 14.6% now.

Bump

This is without a doubt, the worst top 4 of any NHL draft in modern history. We've had 9 seasons since this day, and while these players should be in the prime of their NHL careers today, here is where they stand:

Nail Yakupov - inactive
Ryan Murray - middle of the road, 2nd pairing dman
Alex Galchenyuk - $750k bubble fwd
Griffin Reinhart - inactive

The whole thing was bad. I mean, the 2nd highest point scorer from the draft is Galchenuyk, who was PTOed this year. And in a sea of mediocre players, Calgary picked a first rounder that was less than that.

Here's another way you know the draft is just awful.

Alex Galchenyuk is widely considered to be not a great pick.
He's also #2 from the entire draft in points.

Funny seeing how many posters were glad the Caps took Tom Wilson before we picked Janko.

Had lots of room to develop confidence with strong play in their youth because their peers were ####.

Well, like suspensions, prior conduct comes into play.
