Some of Ryan Pike's thoughts on Parsons.

I wonder if they might be looking at waivers for the purpose of terminating the contract.

Tell me you wouldn't roll the dice on Ghost for $2.25M a year? We just Gudbranson almost that much and he's useless at everything! You wouldn't take Voracek at $4.125M a season? A player who is a big RW that scores at a .8 PPG rate would certainly be a big lift for this team. Both of those players would return good draft picks or prospects, and all you're doing is leveraging Seattle's cap space to their and your advantage, and them recouping assets they didn't have. Francis really screwed the pooch here.

We can keep talking about these decent returns, but none of them came to fruition. Probably because teams that are trying to compete this season had other priorities for their cap space.

St Louis was willing to retain 50% of Tarasenko’s contract and couldn’t find a suitor. The market is just too tight with a stagnant cap.

Odd question - who pays the actual cash? If SEA retains 50% of Ghost do they pay the $2.25 mil? Or is it just a cap space transaction and whoever gets Ghost pays all the actual cash?

Real cash money may have been a factor, no?

Yeah, I think Seattle's biggest mistake was having terrible timing. Cap space flexibility completely dried up with the Covid crunch.

Going second (behind Vegas) was also bad timing, as the league was not going to make the same mistakes twice.

I do believe that Seattle would pay the portion of the contract they agree to retain, which would mean cutting a check to the player. Maybe one of the CBA experts or sureloss can confirm that.

That is weird about Parsons... I just assumed he'd be in Stockton already.

It’s unfortunate and odd but even if we cut bait I’m not too concerned.

Markstrom
Vladar

Werner
Wolf

Chechelev
Sergeyev

Adding Vladar and Werner were extremely underrated moves by Tre.

I thought they were well received

I’m looking forward to Vladar being one of my favourite Flames

I'm hoping they just tell Parson to go home until they find a new home for him if possible. Not sure why they sign him in the first place.

Too much dough for older, middle of the lineup players
so take them and retain a bit of salary and trade them for real assets...wait for the deadline if you must, even next years deadline

Seattle dropped the ball big time IMO, unless their goal was to be average at best for a decade
