The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo has also been cancelled. The event, which was initially to start April 23, had been pushed to July 17 to 19 but officials from Fan Expo, the event’s parent company, said those dates were no longer viable and that plans were underway for April 2021.

The fate of the Calgary Folk Music Festival, which is scheduled for July 23 to 26 at Prince’s Island Park, has not been announced.

I'm not shocked, but I'll miss the folk fest.

“It was a painful decision, it was a disappointment,” said festival producer Terry Wickham. “But it wasn’t a hard decision — it was an obvious one. It’s just not safe.

“I was kind of hoping the authorities would make the call, but I thought, ‘OK I will then.’

I was looking at Stampede thinking, they’ve got to be looking at shutting it down. I thought, well I’m not waiting any more, I’ll just call it.

“I don’t want anyone to worry about the folk festival. We’ll be OK through all of this. We have an endowment fund. We’re funded. The timing was good where we didn’t have to incur huge expenses; it’s not cancelling three weeks before.
“The nightmare scenario is if someone said in May, ‘You can go ahead in August.’ We ramp up and go, and all of a sudden there’s a spike at Heritage Days or something.

What does anyone think the chances are this will go ahead?

Smaller festival with about 4-5 people at a vineyard in Napa. I love the lineup and the intimate vibe of the festival. The wife and I really want to make it work but, obviously...COVID.

personally, sharing facilities and being that close to 4000 people would make it a no go for me.
unless something amazing happens in the treatment of COVID, I would think it's too soon. I wouldn't consider anything before 2021.

Calgary Folk Fest pulls the plug for 2020:
