Default NHL 11 on PS3 Freezing

I have tried searching for the cause but I can't find it. It will usually freeze just before the game starts. IF I happen to get into the game it will freeze after the first period when the start menu is popping up.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Is there a fix? I just want to have a game of hockey with my buds but right now it's impossible!

The game may be scratched, otherwise maybe try compressed air on your PS3

No scratches, the game is practically brand new as well, played only a handful of times. I will give the compressed air a try. The exact same thing is happening on my friends PS3 now as well....different NHL 11 games!

Strange...two things.

1. Have you downloaded the second patch?

2. If not, is your controller synced to controller port 1? There was a bug where you would get disconnected from online games after the first period before the patch. While it shouldn't be creating freezes for offline, it could be a possibility if you're playing under port 2 in a single player game.

Would the patch automatically download when I sign in? I have no idea if this is downloaded or not. The last thing I downloaded was the newest roster file.

I will double check the controllers...

The patch will automatically prompt a download as long as your connected to the PSN when starting up the game.

In that case I have the latest patch!

Some of the guys are coming over tonight to try again...we'll see what happens. I did the old Nintendo trick and blew in the dang thing as hard as I could and a bunch of lint came out...maybe it will be fixed now!

Lint? When the commercial says "It only does everything", it doesn't mean wash your clothes!

OK so the boys were over again tonight but we couldn't get through a full game ithout it freezing.

I really don't know what is going on. This is the ONLY game the freezes and the disc is practically brand new. Is it possible I just have a dud for a disc?

It only started happening since I did the most recent system update.

Might be the case of it being the disc. If tired on different systems and still the same result pops up, then it has to be the disc itself.

I am thinking that as well BUT it only started happening on my system in the past week. It either freezes before the game loads OR at some point during the game (usually when I am winning lol).

It has been happening on my buddies system since day 1.

Maybe I will ask around and try a different disc to see if it corrects the issue.
