Best source for a Win10 key right now?
My Linux Mint experiment is taking too much time to get going. I'd rather have a partition with Win10 to boot up with just Steam, GOG, and Epic Games.

Do you still have your Windows 7 disc? You can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free, that's the cheapest way to get a legit key

For shady you could install the trial version and just never buy it.. it does limit some things but afaik games run fine, though you will see the "Activate Windows" watermark all the time.

I got my win 7 pro online. It's still installed on an old SSD.
I have a brand new, faster SSD now. I'm trying to install win10pro with the same key but having trouble. Will need to troubleshoot a bit.

Wouldn't you need to install Win7 first then Win10 overtop? Or did they eliminate that need?

Nope, you can't use a Win 7 key to activate Win 10 on a first install. The free upgrade only works when you start it from within an activated Windows 7 session. The thing is though the upgrade doesn't even look at the key, it only cares if Windows 7 is activated, so you can activate it by whatevarrrrr method you want

Really looking forward to any additional gains that the SSD will bring.

Welp finally got off my ass and got the extra brackets and cables I needed to finally install the SSD and man what difference.
I had a hell of a time getting it to boot off the SSD. I could select it in the BIOS but it wouldn't boot from that drive for whatever reason. Put the old one back in the other HDD slot (as was always the plan). Ended up having to clone it again and it worked first time.
Next task: CPU cooler, the stock one is noisy as heck right now, how much of a task is this? Can I do it with the mb in the case?

Depends on the case and motherboard.

And the CPU cooler. Some can be installed without access to the back.

Depending on how much space you have in your case it should be pretty easy and straight forward.
If you can install an SSD you can install a cpu cooler

It's not always that easy. If you don't have access through the back of the case, it may mean pulling the motherboard. Not super tricky, but there are many steps if you have to start unplugging everything.

I think this is the thread to put this in.
Thinking about buying a PCVR for Half Life Alyx. Does anyone have the Rift S? Seems to be the best option I can find from a price standpoint for entry in that will play Half LIfe decently well.

ok so I'm slightly allowing myself to get back into PC gaming. I want to get a gaming mouse that isn't saturated with buttons, and has a scroll wheel. Is this just something I'll have to get right with trial and error? I can't just go into stores like memory express now or BB to see how they feel in hand. Any Razer mice anyone here would suggest? Going to have to stick with Razer here.
