Legislative branch of government has supremacy over the executive. It's why the PM is elected by parliament and not by the citizenry. (Canada operates under the same principle, btw.)

Off topic, but god, what the hell happened to bbc.co.uk? Ugly ass redesign, and now a forced redirect to bbc.com, which is primarily focused on US news. And frankly, that is the very last thing I would go to a British news site to find.

I’m starting to think that another referendum will be the outcome here.

Theresa May has promised Tory MPs she will step down as prime minister before the next phase of Brexit negotiations in a bid to get Eurosceptics to back her withdrawal deal.

The prime minister said she would make way for another Conservative leader, after listening to the demands of MPs for a new leadership team.

“I have heard very clearly the “I have heard very clearly the mood of the parliamentary party. I know there is a desire for a new approach – and new leadership – in the second phase of the Brexit negotiations and I won’t stand in the way of that,” May said, according to a transcript released afterwards.

“I know some people are worried that if you vote for the withdrawal agreement, I will take that as a mandate to rush on into phase two without the debate we need to have. I won’t; I hear what you are saying. But we need to get the deal through and deliver Brexit.

“I am prepared to leave this job earlier than I intended in order to do what is right for our country and our party.”

She did not set a specific date for her departure as she spoke to a 1922 committee meeting of Conservative backbenchers. But she is likely to be out of Downing Street before the autumn.

I know you all hate me so if you pass my deal I'll go away.

Yeah, I can't figure out how to over-ride that redirect. I even tried creating an account saying I was British.

I guess it's understandable they don't want the rest of the world knowing what a mess they've made of themselves and would rather remind everyone what stupid thing Trump is doing today.

man, Boris is a cunning little sleazeball ... he's played this interestingly. What's worse than Brexit itself? Brexit and Boris as PM. Good luck, Britain.

The DUP having power to sway a vote or not is probably the most horrific (depressing?) part of this whole fiasco.

I genuinely am depressed about the whole thing. I’m sick of it all. Sick of the poison, sick of the division and sick of living through this ####ing nightmare foisted on us just to save the Tory party from eating itself alive at the expense of this country.

We have just had easily the worst two Prime Ministers in this country’s history and they have completely destroyed any and I mean ANY faith I have in this country’s political system.

We may never recover from the hatred and division this has caused.

... to be followed by Jeremy 'hold my beer' Corbyn. May is horrible - that was the worst 2 years I have ever seen from a leader. Complete abrogation of leadership.

The political landscape here, even with a change in government looks unbelievably hopeless.

Any of the runners coming out of the Tory side are hopeless cowards who ran a mile rather than take the helm after the referendum.

As for Labour. That party just needs to split.

How does Scotland fit into all of this? My Dad and I were thinking of doing a Scotch/Golf trip in 2020... Maybe we shouldn't.

This would actually work out rather beautifully for May. She gets her deal, and she gets to walk away and leave someone else to deal with the damage it will cause.

I'm going in August, I'll let you know if insanity has set in and all the men start wearing skirts by then...

It will be fine, you will probably get 4 quid to the dollar by then and the locals will be so poor you'll be able to hire a fat pasty white 15 year old that barely speaks English except the barely understandable 'me love you long time yankee' to be your girlfriend for the stay.
