I think we'll finally get to hear what is going on in Rousey's camp though.
You knew it had to be something nutty when her mother - who has legit street cred in the fight game - calls out Rousey's trainer as a bad person before the fight.
so what is next for Holm? You'd think that the UFC would want to get the belt back on Rousey quickly, but does Holm get to take on the #1 contender first (Tate?)?

I have a feeling Rousey takes a bit of a break, then comes back and owns Holm in the rematch. Rousey looked off to begin with, and then credit to Holm, she picked her apart with her striking. That finishing kick to the brachial artery was nasty.

Compounding the problems with Tarverdyan's treatment of women athletes is Ronda Rousey's career success. De Mars didn't shy away from pointing the finger at her own daughter as part of the problem, a public figure that gives Glendale Fight Club a lot of positive exposure.
"We talked about it before and last time she was like, 'Oh, I've got a fight coming up,'" De Mars said. "You only get that pass from me once. Whoever she wants to date, whatever she wants to do in her career, that's her business. But if you're in a situation where you're really causing harm to other people by being used as bait to lure people in there, I think somebody needs to speak out. All I did was say publicly what people have been whispering for years, but no one had the balls to speak up, because Edmond is like that gatekeeper to Ronda. It's just nauseating."
And just to add insult to injury, Rousey's mom pointed out that, outside of her daughter, Tarverdyan doesn't exactly have a track record as a great coach. "People actually do worse, but he keeps telling them how great they are, how great they're doing and they stay there. It's pathetic."

MMA commentators calling out her coach before the fight:

Quote:
I am of the belief that if Ronda Rousey would have walked into any MMA gym in the country she would have became a world champion. I find it difficult to imagine that Rousey wouldn't have been as good, if not better under the tutelage of the likes of Mark Henry, Mike Winklejohn or Duane Ludwig, all of whom have better track records at making grapplers into exceptional strikers.
Did Team Bombsquad make Jon Jones an amazing fighter? No. Some athletes are just bound for greatness, Rousey's judo background and insane athleticism meant that anywhere she went she would be successful. To further back up this claim all you need to do is look back at any one else who Tarverdyan has coached. The likes of Jake Ellenberger, Travis Browne and the Four Horsewomen, all of whom have shown slim to marginal improvements under Tarverdyan.
Some people are just bound for greatness like Ronda Rousey and some are just bound for immense fortune like Tarverdyan. On Saturday night, the greatest female fighter of all-time will earn millions of dollars and her coach will likely receive a substantial cut (or not if his tax returns are to be believed). One thing is for certain, Edmond Tarverdyan can thank his lucky stars that Ronda Rousey walked into his academy.
|
and to make this coach situation even more interesting, on November 3rd he filed for bankruptcy, which includes his gym. So notwithstanding he is the coach and gatekeeper to the biggest draw in MMA, possibly one of the top 3 sports stars on the planet at the moment, he is $700,000 in debt and has assets of only $3,300? And he lists himself as unemployed earning $0.00 (according to the article).
http://www.mmamania.com/2015/11/3/96...hting-club-mma
Doesn't seem to add up. And anything that caused a distraction to Rousey will be highly scrutinized in the days ahead.

Big loss for the UFC and Dana must be crushed. I know he can promote the rematch, but still, losing your current marquee fighter in a dominating manner with no judges to blame or anything has to suck. Its interesting because I don't sense a lot of sympathy from others for Rousey because of her continual unsportsmanlike attitude. Last night refusing to touch gloves, and basically every single fight she has a personal reason to be ignorant toward her opponent.
Overall I think its good for the sport that finally she had to fight someone good though. The sport needs some parity and hopefully there is more to come.

Maybe Rousey takes some time away from the sport, and see's what shakes out.
I'm betting she does a WWE story line, shoots some film and tries to decide if she still wants to fight.
This probably kills any cyborg matchup unless Rousey comes back quickly and wins back the title.
But now she's got the Tyson question following her.
Tyson the unwreckable killing machine until behind the scene drama, and personal angst ended his dominance.

And a trainer that decided that it was a good idea to take a grappler and turn her into a striker and put her in against a highly ranked woman's boxer.
Sounds like Tate was trashing Rousey at an after party, probably angling to become relevant or a punching bag again or whatever.
Rousey needs to go back to her bread and butter.

I still can't believe Rousey's apparent game plan last night.
Charging in against probably the best Female striker in the UFC. She should have been sitting back waiting for Holm to come to her, and then slipping the strikes & taking her down at will for ground & pound and/or submission.
Just ridiculous, but goes to show how over confidence in your abilities can lead to disaster.

Floyd being Floyd, it'd be hilarious if he bet $1 million on Holm to win. Tough to tell who had the worst night, Ronda, Dana or the casinos.

I do think it was unfortunate. Regardless of the MMA and some peoples views about her Ronda she was empowering woman sport and eliminating the woman from woman athlete tag
I could name many girls that would have no clue or name a MMA fighter but sure knows who Ronda Rousey is
Holly is a great person and I have no doubt will make a great story for any reporter wishing to tell her story (which many will not outside of the MMA world) but it is unfortunately that the momentum and force that Ronda has broke new grown on will change and collapse back to the way things were (just lighter better)

I always laugh at the comments about Dana/UFC suffering when a champ loses. At this point Zuffa are hype machines and known how to build stars. Remember the posts how the UFC is going to suffer when GSP retired, Silva lost etc etc? New stars emerged, new stars will continue to emerge. While those guys left Ronda Rousey and Connor Mcgregor dominated the ppv market like those before them.
In meantime the rematch will be huge dollars for the UFC and Ronda is still a bonafide star.

Is it ok to post a link off YouTube showing the KO?

UFC only really loses if Rousey loses the rematch too.
The rematch will now be a bigger draw then whoever would have been next after Holm.

Yup, and people love a comeback story. If she regains the strap she'll be a bigger star then ever.
I hate immediate rematches though. Part of why I loved when GSP regained his belt is he took a fight with then top contender Josh Koschek and earned that fight again.

We don't know if Holly Holm is Chris Weidman or Matt Serra yet.
Really it's no lose for the UFC.
Rousey wins and she is a great story. Holm wins and she is the new undefeated face of the women's division who just beat Rousey twice.
The immediate rematch makes sense her though since Rousey already dominated everyone else in the division

Wasn't able to watch the PPV until just now.
I was totally impressed with Holly's foot-speed, countering and overall game plan. Holm picked the right time to showcase her skills against Rousey. As her previous UFC fights were not that exciting.
Rousey's boxing and hand-speed have finally exposed, I blame her creepy coach for filling her head with false grandeur.
Well done Holm.
