I'm really sorry for your loss. I lost two friends to it too.
It was a once in a lifetime situation that was made worse by misinformation and fear. There was fear on all sides. Its tragic how this has divided friends, coworkers and families. Regardless of our stance, why should our love for one another disappear because we don't agree on something? Same as politics.
Its so tragic. I've often wondered if they didn't advertise company names how big a difference that would have made, along with not mandating it. Obviously the latter will stir the pot but people are naturally rebellious when the government tells you what to do, so it seems.
We don't argue about which company gives a flu shot. We don't want it we don't take it and take the consequences with it. But now with so much disinformation about autism and the like, we see the uptick of diseases long since controlled.
None of this is new either. Reading the history of the 1918 pandemic tells us all the same arguments were made then. I guess history will repeat itself and our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will bring things back to stability.

I'll never pass up an opportunity to bash antivaxxer dummies.
They might not be in our face blathering their uneducated, garbage opinions constantly anymore but they're still out there. These are people who did very poorly in Grade 6 science class yet somehow have the balls to make declarative statements about medical professionals being morons and part of a conspiracy. Their Rebel News and kooky facebook threads support this lunacy and that's all they need to continue down the rabbit hole.

most frustrating thing: this was the first major pandemic in our lifetimes, so it should be something to learn from in order to prepare for the next one. But with all the misinformation and "alternative facts", you just know the next one will be even worse. Mankind never learns.

Bets on if the province will make people pay for covid vaccines going forward? The Feds are not procuring anymore, and it shifts to provincial responsibility.

I'd be really surprised if they pay for universal supply, despite COVID being far more harmful to our medical system than the flu, which they fund. They may throw some bones speaking about "protecting the vulnerable" from one side of their mouth, while claiming with ferociousness about protecting the rights of those who don't want it(no more persecution!), and shouldn't be paying for it for others with tax dollars.

Neither is the flu. It's called not being a prick, because unless you don't leave your home, there are people out there we interact with every day for whom it can be very serious.

I had on my "Science Doesn't Care What You Believe In" shirt today. A guy was eye-balling me and I thought, "here we go" but he walked over and said he loved the shirt and loved the message. Just doing my part!

And no I am not an anti vaxxer. I'm one of the <20% that did get the flu shot this year.

Based on some of the things I read here and elsewhere, it's no surprise that polio is about to make a big comeback.
Ah freedom...yes, an essential quality for human existence, and what could be better than the freedom to cause paralysis in young children? How could I ever exist without that fundamental right?

Pro-vaxxer here. I have my updated COVID and flu vaccines, and have taken many other vaccines since I was a child for measles, meningitis, hepatitis, etc. I feel terrific, have for a long time, and haven't been more than mildly sick in ages. Long live vaccines, science and listening to the actual experts in these fields!

My guess is that if infection rates are higher now, it's because flue infection rates were extremely low during the lockdowns and there's less overall immunity in the population.

Weren’t we all supposed to be dead two years in? I’ve had, I think, seven COVID shots, flu shots and several travel shots and I’m still alive and kicking. And my wifi is stronger than ever.

I've sired two offspring since getting vaccinated for Covid, so can confirm it doesn't affect your plumbing either.

Those are Canadian numbers. Below are the Alberta numbers. The Canadian numbers are being offset by higher rates in other province.
This year's season isn't over, but at the same time last year, we were already at 24% for the flu vaccine.
