Unlike last year's streak, the Flames have carried the play and looked dominant, and have not simply been carried by otherworldly goaltending...
That didn’t happen last year either. Elliott was very, very good in the streak last season, but through most of the second half last year the whole team was playing excellent hockey.
I would say the biggest difference this year has been goaltending consistency: while goaltending was very good for a six week period which included the streak last year, much of the rest of the time it was well below average. This has been the difference this year: the team has been playing great, and so have the goalies—all season long.

Eh, Smiths been really good but I still think Gaudreau is the MVP of this team. He’s definitely gotta be in league wide MVP discussions at this point.
After years of frustrating futility in net with a rotating cast, we now have a goalie who consistently saves pucks when we need him to. And some pucks he has no business saving.
I’d say without hesitation that Smith has been the MVP this year.

What was Freddie doing to Dougie while they lived together...he must have kept Dougie out partying all night. The big brother was a bad influence and it needed to be addressed.
I think we’ve been so traumatized by goaltending in the past that we have to remind ourselves that top teams get excellent goaltending. Is it a coincidence that president’s trophy winners often have Vezina candidates as their starters?
The break comes at a terrible time for this team as ideally you would like to keep playing a steady schedule while they are on a streak. Still though was a good run of games against solid opponents. The test will be to see if they can pick up where they left off after the break.
Great road games and so dominant....a couple of lazy penalties but Smith made the big saves. All 4 lines are rolling, and there is the right time to get a hot streak. A well deserved byweek for the team. As a fan I cannot be more happier in the last 10 days. GFG !
