I was waiting for Alexander Pierce to rip off his face at the end to reveal the Red Skull. There were a few hints around that, but it never happened.

It'd be really cool to have the Civil War storyline down the line (maybe after Age of Ultron) where Iron Man becomes a control freak because of some traumatic incident and tries to lock down freedoms which causes Captain America and other heroes to go underground. In the comics, the Winter Soldier steals Captain American's shield to keep it safe and then takes over as Captain America fighting against Iron Man after Steve Rogers is seemingly killed.

I'd love to see this but I can't figure out how it would work without Spider-Man, X-Men and the FF. I suppose you could do it without them but I think it would lack the impact of the comic. Marvel would probably want to introduce more characters for it to work.
With all the characters they've already introduced along with some upcoming I think it would shape out as follows. Correct me if I am wrong.
Anti-Registration
- Cap
- Falcon
- Nick Fury
- Quicksilver
- Winter Soldier
* If they take the characters from their upcoming TV series. (Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones & Luke Cage).
Pro-Registration
- Iron Man
- Ant-Man
- Black Widow
- Maria Hill
- War Machine

Punisher
Hulk? (if they don't do Planet Hulk)
Black Panther (pretty sure Marvel has his rights)
Doctor Strange
Guardians of the Galaxy
* If they take the characters from their upcoming TV series. (Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones & Luke Cage).
Pro-Registration
- Iron Man
- Ant-Man
- Black Widow
- Maria Hill
- War Machine
Thor (they could make it work)
- Hawkeye
Wasp
Sentry
Ms. Marvel (no idea who owns her rights)
leftovers from SHIELD
Thunderbolts

It's actually pretty easy to fill in even without including some of the primary players like Spider-Man, Mr. Fantastic, and Wolverine. But, obviously they're building up towards Infinity Gauntlet instead, so I doubt we're going to get Civil War until Avengers 4 (if it ever happens).

Man I wish Warner and Marvel could cut a deal to create cross-overs. You'd almost think something is in the works with the Twins reveal at the end credits.

Do you mean Fox (and/or Sony)? Warner's has the rights to DC.

Interesting, I did not see it and any extensive google searching is not turning it up as one of the easter eggs.
Another one that I missed is the last name of Agent 13 aka Sharon Carter.. Peggy Carter is the girl Cap is talking to who "owes him a dance." One of the founding SHIELD agents that Cap worked with in his previous life.

I didn't list some of those characters because they haven't been in a movie yet and don't have one upcoming. So those characters would need to be introduced in some way. Not sure why I forgot about Hawkeye.
Hulk needs to be off earth in order for Civil War to work. Any side with the Hulk is going to win and I am not sure they'd do Planet Hulk without the Silver Surfer license.
Thor didn't participate in the Civil War although he did return to earth afterwards to lay a beat down on Iron Man.
I don't know... as much as I'd love to see the Civil War tackled on the big screen, that cast of characters (as it stands now) is kind of weak. Plus as a huge Spider-Man fan, I think it would lose one of the more interesting story lines.
But back to Captain America, I wonder if they're going to kill him off in the future and have the Winter Soldier take up the mantle.

This is the best image I could find:
I am pretty sure that's Stark tower converted into an Avengers building.

Definitely the A for Avengers and not a four. Marvel doesn't own Fantastic Four's rights.

Yes, it has been widely remarked upon as an easter egg that that's the new and remodeled Stark tower.

When they booted up the helicarriers and they started showing the targets through the computer one was Tony Stark in Manhattan.

That'll be good for Civil War or Chris Evans retiring from the role.

Thought it was a good movie, only things I didn't like were how the twist was explained and the Winter Soldier's identity. The movie starts to really pick up in the second act but when the twist was presented it was kind of vague, explained quickly and not in a way that was very interesting.
It should have, and could have been a big reveal holy f'ing crap moment. For instance the twist in Fight Club because it's so sudden and so clear, that's how to do it to really create an impact but the way it was done in this movie was just not handled well. Also similar to the way the Winter Soldier's identity was dealt with, the people in the theatre were pretty unresponsive with one guy murmuring that it was captain america's friend. Could have been done way better, climactic moments that warrant a response from the audience should not be anti-climactic, it's bad story telling.

Saw it tonight - brilliant movie.
It was great how bad ass all the characters were.
I thought the Bucky reveal was handled well - many in the audience gasped.
Redford, Jackson and Evans were outstanding.
Interesting to see Steven Strange mentioned.
Black Widow might work as a darker movie. Her current solo series is really good as she handles missions around the world.
