That Pizza Thread
As some of you who follow this board more closely than normal may know I recently moved to Calgary. And as anyone who has moved knows, finding the new food hotspots can be problematic. Like a normal human being I'm partial to a slice of outstanding pizza, unfortunately I haven't the faintest idea on where to get started on finding great pizza in the city.
I'm looking to the CP community to help me out. As the location in my profile indicates, I am located in the NW by the U of C. While I would certainly appreciate recommendations on locations around my area (especially those that would deliver), I'm hoping this can be an all-encompassing thread for all things pizza in Calgary. I would definitely traverse the treacherous streets and alleys of this city for a good slice.
To start off, I've heard that Varsity Pizza & Subs is pretty good, but that is all based off of a 2 year old thread.
Thanks in advance.

Famoso is tight, do it up.
So is UNA, but make a reservation.
Otherwise if you're looking for za to throw in the oven for a quick fix, Tim's is a cut above. Really great ingredients, and you can find them at a couple farmers markets.

Famoso is definitely worth checking out for those who haven't. Tried them in Edmonton and they have some delicious pizza.

Pizzeria Gaga in Betline is quite good - we ordered from them a few weeks ago and liked it a lot. I believe the owners are Serbian, I've heard the wife used to be a chef at SAIT.

Varsity Pizza & Subs is fast food. It's actually not very good but has the nostalgic factor for some people I think.

It's been over a year, but I'd recommend Nick's as well. Also, I dislike everything else about the place, but the Rock in Royal Oak does have decent pizza as well, even though it's not super close and I don't believe they deliver either.

Also a big thank you for the recommendations. I'll definitely try Nick's and some of the other places suggested.

What kind of pizza are you looking for? A more Italian type of pizza with thin crust, limited toppings, a commodity pizza like your big chains or cpus, or a Saskatchewn style (perhaps greek style) with lots of meat, vegies, and cheese?
The answer of where to get pizza really depends on what you are looking for.

I normally get Inglewood Pizza when I want takeout.
Spiros on 17th Ave. if I want to dine in.
For everyone mentioning Una and Famosa, I think CIBO on 17th Ave has great thin crust that rivals these two. They also have a great happy hour special every weekday. $5 pizzas.

Since this is all encompassing, I am going to suggest Lina's. Not for anything pre made, but but the dough, buffalo mozzarella, sause, pepperoni, olives, basil, etc. Do it yourself, it will be the best pizza you ever had.
If you start doing your own pizzas and love it, then the next step is to get a Green Egg. Once you start mastering Pizza with fresh ingredients on the Green Egg, you will experience something you never will at any place in Calgary. Unfortunately, it will also ruin all resto pizza to just ok, so that is the con I guess.

Anything but Volos pizza. Had some last night, it was some of the worst pizza I've ever had. Flavourless dried out crust, skimpy on toppings and cheese, and the pizza sauce tasted kind of like ketchup.

Just got home from Bensonhurst Pizza on 17th Ave. Today was their soft opening and it was outrageously good. I've never been to New York or Chicago to compare, but their pizzas are incredible. It might be my new favourite pizza place.
