Craig Ferguson steps down from Late Late Show
That sucks:
http://tvline.com/2014/04/28/craig-f...late-show-cbs/
Ferguson announced to his studio audience at a taping for Monday’s program that he will step down as host of The Late Late Show in Dec. 2014. The news follows CBS’ decision to tap Stephen Colbert — and not Ferguson — to succeed David Letterman as host of The Late Show.
“CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are ‘consciously uncoupling,’ Ferguson said. “But we will still spend holidays together and share custody of the fake horse and robot skeleton, both of whom we love very much.”

****! He's still my go to late night host. So unique. I wonder if there was a bit of bitterness here. Maybe he was waiting for years hosting the show directly after Letterman on CBS and heard Colbert was replacing Letterman and wasn't pissed, but just thought "alright, that's all I was really waiting for, that's enough for me".

Sad. USA Today is saying he was given Dave's chair once he retires in his contract? I wasn't aware of that: http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/t...-show/8436401/

I find Ferguson tremendously funny and talented, but I don't understand the bitterness these show business people have. I could understand more if these guys were amazing and didn't even have a show of their own, but they do so.. Wtf. Be happy with your "late late" show. It's more than some people have.

Let him take Seth Meyers spot. I'm not liking Seth too much right now.
]Damn that sucks. He interviews the pretty ladies better than anyone else. The latest interview he did with Scarlett Johansson was spectacular.

I don't know. The Late Show is a better time slot, would get more ad revenue and in turn a higher pay cheque. I can understand why he'd be upset over being passed over.
It's a drive to be the best. It's like saying "why are hockey players who lose in the finals upset when they don't win the Stanley Cup. They should be happy with how well they did, it's better than most players acheive."
The goal is the #1 spot.

Why does anyone strive for more, strive to be the best? It's human nature.

Really sucks. Big fan of Ferguson. His monologues and interviews were and are some of the best.
Sometimes you wouldn't know it, but he us one of the hardest working and talented guys out there. Some big names speak very highly of him.
Interested to see where he lands. Late Night seemed to be the perfect job for him.

What Ferguson is striving for is debatable as being the best. If he wants to tone down his personality and humour and become a vanilla-flavoured version of himself for a pay raise, the earlier time slot would be ideal. I think that's what happened to Letterman when he moved from NBC to CBS. Letterman was incredible when he was at Late Night after Carson. He had an edge about him. He had hilarious segments. Then he just became the CBS version of Leno. Nothing differentiating him from any of these other guys. Ditto with Conan. That early time slot just brings out the boring in these guys.
Ferguson is much better off as a "late late" guy who doesn't have to worry about appeasing every demographic group that Letterman, Leno, and Conan do.

That's because his humour was incredibly vanilla to begin with.

Variety has an exclusive with him: http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/crai...ve-1201166239/#

The simple fact is, Ferguson wanted to move on before the work became a chore. He’s proud of the show and how oddball it is — with a robot skeleton and stuffed horse for sidekicks. But he has “ideas” for new things and is engaged with the various projects that his Green Mountain West production banner is developing for Science Channel and Discovery. And he’s got a new gig starting in the fall as host and producer of the syndie gameshow “Celebrity Name Game.”
|
Quote:
But what about the reports that Ferguson’s last contract included a clause that calls for him to see an eight-figure payout if he was not chosen as Letterman’s successor? Ferguson paused, and then cited words of advice from a seasoned Scottish comedian, Johnny Beattie, who befriended him years ago.
“He told me, ‘There’s two things we never discuss: Wages and ages.’ So I think I’m gonna stick to that.”

I watched a stand up special from Ferguson and I was actually kind of disappointed.
