When I used to sleep over at my aunt and uncle's place, my uncle used to play the chicken dance to wake us up.

I personally found it hilarious and I always woke up laughing. My one cousin for some reason found it to be the most offensive song to wake up to and would always flip out on him. My uncle being the troll he is, still does it to this day when he wants he to get her up and she still flips out.

High risk/high reward song.

You could always go for the utterly ridiculous (yet strangely classic) kids wake-up song:

Walking on sunshine is a great one. Brown eyed girl by Van Morison is also a good toe tapper. Yes I just used the term toe tapper.

99 red balloons - nena
500 miles - proclaimers ( minus the get drunk part for kids)

Asks for upbeat, happy music - has O Fortuna on playlist; an ominous song about fate being a fickle b*tch who enjoys crushing men.

Me too, but the Great Big Sea version seemed a little more upbeat and kid-friendly with the whistles and folk style over Slade's electric guitars. ;D

my four-year-old goes nuts when I play this one. I gather that lyrically it really isn't that happy, but unless you speak Finnish at home it shouldn't make a difference:

Nothing funnier than hearing my then 2 year old sing Hell's Bells in the Superstore. The best was when he put a heavy emphasis on "SEND YOU TO HELL!"

My daughter's favourite song is Black Sabbath's War Pigs, doesn't get much more upbeat than that.
