Interesting NCAA free agents 2024
Former Flames development camp invitee Dylan Anhorn is currently second in scoring for the 13th ranked St. Cloud Huskies. A defenseman and Calgary kid., he's in his senior year.
Someone to keep an eye out for this upcoming college free agent season.
He's older (25) so maybe a Colton Poolman type for the Wranglers at the very least.

Anyone watch the Nadeau brothers? How is Brad a 1st round pick, but Josh is not draft worthy? Yes, I get the size and the 18 month age difference, but you would think the skill has got to be worth a 7th round pick. There are similar small players in college who have been drafted that pale in comparison.

I would love for the Flames to get him into the system and see. He is a small player, but I don't see the risk.
Prokop and Graf would be my targets as well. Maybe Black too and goalies are such wild cards and he has good size.
Veremyev is interesting as well.

Graf would be a nice get. Projects to be a top six forward. Most NCAA free agents are of the depth/tweener variety nowadays.

There’s really only big difference- Brad is 5’11”, and Josh is 5’7”. I would also hazard a guess that Josh doesn’t possess Brad’s breathtaking shot…
Josh will probably get some interest after putting up the kind of eye-popping stats in college that he has.

5. Cooper Black attended Flames development camp in 2022
Quote:
Black is a 6-foot-9 goalie, so his lower half is understandably sluggish getting around the net, but when you have a 6-foot-9 goalie who has some ability it’s still very intriguing. He reads the play quite well and is efficient moving around the net. He has the potential to be a legit backup goalie in the NHL if he can keep up with the pace of the higher levels.
|
15. John Prokop attended Flames development camp in 2023
Quote:
Prokop has led Union in scoring as a sophomore. He was always seen as a talented player in junior, but his defense was awful and he was inconsistent. His defending has improved enough to be a potential sign candidate with a chance to be a solid pro. He’s a tall defender who skates well and has enough skill to be interesting at higher levels.
|
35. Gleb Veremyev attended Flames development camp in 2022
Quote:
Veremyev is a big and extremely physical winger who had a good sophomore season at Colorado College. He has some skill too, but his feet are a major issue when projecting him to the NHL especially, when the offense he brings isn’t amazing.

I believe in the Jays.
|
Prokop, Black, and Graf are the ones that jump out at me.
Especially Black... I mean he must cover so much of the net just by virtue of his height. The stats seem pretty meh but I wonder what might be with some professional level instructions and skill development.

Yes Graf looks like the most interesting one, great stats, decent size at centre.
But a Boston boy will probably end up signing back in Boston especially since they probably need good young players on ELC.
Nadeau will probably sign wherever his brother is.
Quillan has ok stats.
The rest, meh.

Quillan plays center on that line; Graf is often listed as a center, but does not play center on that line when ever I have watched Quinnipiac.

Flames have been stocking up on defensive prospects in the last little while, so really any sort of player out there would be welcome.

John Prokop’s Union College loses to Cooper Black’s Dartmouth, 2 games to zero
Prokop’s season is over and potential signing watch can begin

Prokop would be a nice add to an already bolstered blueline, but maybe at 25 he looks for a shorter route to the show. I wonder if the Flames circle back on Carter Wilkie.

Cooper Black would be the biggest goaltender in NHL history. He and Wolf as a "Mutt and Jeff" tandem would be hilarious.
