wranglers Calgary Wranglers 2023-24 Season thread

ROSTER NOTES

Parker Bell has been returned to Tri-City Americans of the WHL for the season.

Bell will not be not be eligible for recall by the Wranglers until the Americans' season is completed.

The Wranglers begin their regular season on the road in a pair of games vs. Manitoba Friday and Sunday.

Wranglers are currently carrying 14 forwards, 9 defenders and 3 goalkeepers.

I suspect a defenseman or two, and one of Murphy or Wolf to be demoted to Rapid City at some point soon. ECHL season starts next week.

I was gonna comment haha. Made me check the roster page to see if we had another Wolf on D or something.

Curious how they’ll start this year. Had some struggles early last season til they figured it out and returned to form. But I assume they won’t be as strong this year.

Defenseman Sam Jardine is still in camp, but his ECHL rights belong to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. He played in the British league last season.

My guesses for opening night:

Pettersen-Zary-Pospisil
Ciona-Jones-Klapka
Sutter-Bishop-Schwindt
Stromgren-McLain-Kerins

Healthys: Nikolaev and Gallant

In the past, Pospisil has been a first line guy, but very injury prone and he'll need to prove he can stay there with discipline. I can see Klapka moving up eventually. But I'd be surprised to see him 1R opening night.

Side note: boy is this entire organization weak on the right side.

Gotta collect GOTY and MVP there too. Trophy case a lil empty.

If you can't trust random German-language hockey sites publishing wild speculation, who can you trust?

The *weird* thing is Hunter Shinkaruk signed a couple days ago with Iserlohn, the team Bishop was connected to by the German outlet. Could have been some weird sourcing combined with some mix-ups? Shinkaruk is from Calgary, after all...

In house 3 stars included a “polite home selection” so I gave it to Wolf.

Nikolaev, Kerins scratches up front, Gourley, Jardine and Aspirot on defense.

What’s the deal with Kerins? Healthy scratch?

He's just not that good without the puck. One dimensional scorer that isn't elite.

My goodness.

Reminds me of the Tocchet/Clark throwdown in the 80's.
