icon53 Flames' "Blasty" logo showing up on new merch at FanAttic

I know some people really hate this logo but it's really grown on me over the years... the old black jersey is one of my favourite jerseys.

Ryan Popowich teased a few months ago that Blasty would be making appearances in coming months/years... and now, he's shown up on this sick new hat at FanAttic/CGY Team Store.

Hopefully it shows up in more places in the future, I'd be all for another black third with it in a few years! (Yes I know it conflicts with the C of Red branding but the Flames' retro marketing suggests they might be a little bit more malleable to fan demands than previously thought and this logo had developed a bit of a following).

Blasty? Where did that name come from? Never heard that when they actual used it!

Pretty cool to dip into the archives however. Does anyone remember the shoulder patch on their last third jerseys? Give me a shirt or hat with that logo and I'd be happy.

Our jerseys would look considerably less tacky if these were once again our shoulder patches.

I don’t get why there is such resistance to that logo from anyone

Who can possibly think the Flags look better. Even the black thirds are cool and should be brought back

Why does it have to be flags or snotfire? Just say no to all bad shoulder patches

I don't think there's been any official discussion of Ol' Blasty shoulder crests as far as I've read.

It's more likely the team is bringing the logo back for merchandizing reasons. Nostalgia sells (as was seen last year with the Hitmen's Corral Series which saw re-issues of Wranglers, Centennials and Cowboys swag).

If it sells a few extra hats, toques, etc. the organization is all over that.

I'm with you on that. I would absolutely love to see that jersey in action again.

I hate blasty and as I’ve said before:

-Animal face profiles always look strange. There is a reason most animal logos are a side profile. It is difficult to show 3D depth on a flat survive.
-The flames look like tissues
-Reinforces the Calgary western stereotype
-The horses eyes are angry but the mouth looks happy
-Difficult for a child to draw
-The only competent design feature is the symmetry however this is ruined by the mouth, cheeks, and forehead having small details that are not symmetrical.

I seriously think at least 2/3s of people who say they like this logo are just doing it to troll me.

That's a lot of analysis right there for sure, and you might very well be correct on all counts. I just think it's awesome, and that it goes exceptionally well with the black jerseys.

The "Ol' Blasty" nickname came well after it was retired. It was always referred to as "Flaming Snot Horse (or Goat)" as far as I recall.

I was never a big fan of it personally, but accept that it had a lot of fans younger than me and that it is their early memories of the team's identity (in some of its darkest days). The introduction of the chevron striping styling was followed up in later kits. Wasn't totally keen on the black, to be honest.

As nostalgia merchandizing (or even a one-off third) I can accept it.

It was the Pedestal Era pyjamas that drew the most aesthetic ire as far as I'm concerned.

Western stereotype? It's called a western heritage and it's nothing Calgarians should be ashamed of.

I’ve always thought it looks more like a deranged hippo than a horse. Not a fan. That thing is Canucking ugly.

Ive only ever known it as "Flaming Snot Horse".

And I kinda liked it. Never really understoood the hate.

Also, the Flames' shoulder flags are the best thing ever put on a hockey jersey. If they take them off the next jersey, the first thing I'm gonna do is buy one and sew flags on it.

I was going to say this.

The team plays in a stadium (for now anyways) named after and shaped like a horse saddle. You're not going to get away from Western Heritage with the Flames, and a horse logo isn't going to change that.

Now that "Retro's" are back full time, Retro-night would be a good night for them to wear this as a one off. 10-13 times a year would be too much.
