Alberta government will not investigate the controversial $905,000 sole-source contract

Allow me to register my complete and utter surprise.

Great.

"The realities of this budget require us to innovate how we operate and structure our organization to deliver outcomes. We are acting quickly to align strategies with the priorities of this government and a smaller budget," spokesperson Dwayne Brunner said in an email.

The layoffs come on the heels of the release of a four-year provincial budget in October. As part of a plan to return to Alberta to balance by 2023, 2,100 public service positions are on the chopping block — a 7.7 per cent reduction.
Alberta Innovates is facing millions in cuts to its operating budget through 2023.

Quote:
According to its 2019 annual report, Alberta Innovates employs 670 people at 11 locations. Its total expenditures for 2018-19 were $278 million, but it reports it created over 2,000 new jobs and that every $1 of funding it awarded generated $29.83 in follow up investment.

Innovation is a luxury we can't afford right now.

Why do we need to innovate? Let's get back to the glory days, we only need oil! It worked then, it'll work this time dagnabbit!

I really hate feeling this way, but I think Alberta is going to be substantially worse off by the time the next election rolls around than it is currently.

I hope enough people keep track that this hack job party and their supporters can’t wriggle out of this one and keep pointing fingers.

Alberta is going backwards, and it’s pathetic.

I don't know if it's Kenney's intentions, but he is actually driving people away from caring about the O&G industry by putting it on this pedestal above every other industry in Alberta.

I completely agree. My wife and I have been looking at buying a house and I'm starting to get cold feet. Not optimistic about our province right now.

We're in a similar position and it looks like we'll continue to sit on the sidelines. Home prices keep dropping with no end in sight, and we're in no rush otherwise.

They're literally ONLY banking on O&G and high oil prices.

God/Allah/Flying Spaghetti Monster help us all if oil drops again within the next few years...

Rachel Notley kicked out of legislative assembly

Quote:
"The house leader is misleading the house, but the premier is saying Albertans are subject to one set of rules but when it comes to himself, it’s a whole new world and he can rewrite them as any cover-up demands," she said.

"Why won’t the premier explain to Albertans what exactly he is trying so hard to hide?"

That prompted Cooper to remind Notley of house rules.

“The leader of the opposition knows full well that she can’t make a statement like ‘the government house leader is misleading the house.’ She can apologize and withdraw,” Cooper said.

“I will not apologize until we have fully canvassed the destructive nature of this bill in a historic bill to the people in this province and the members of this house,” responded Notley.

Notley was removed from the assembly for the remainder of the day for her refusal to apologize.

Wow I must be out to lunch because I didn't realize the Speaker could be partisan - Nathan Cooper is a UCP MLA. That seems like something that should be changed no matter which government is in power.

Nathan Cooper is a yes man and a lap dog. He will sit at the foot of anyone who holds power. That said, he is a nice guy. One could even say that he is a Good Boy.

Yeah, I wonder what the hell the reasoning for that request was?

In 99% of times talking to your MLA is a total waste of time. Mine is a friend and his office is about 50 steps from mine and I don’t bother. They don’t give a f what we think. I detest party politics and this corrupt government and premier. /end rant

All speakers are partisan. The last speaker Bob Wanner was an NDP MLA.
