I mean a decent backup is worth more than a sixth rounder and Minshew is certainly that. Although the fit in Philly is pretty odd too because if Hurts isn't the guy then they'll probably be all in for Deshaun or another higher end QB than Minshew. Kinda strange trade all around.

Not when you consider Joe Flacco is absolute garbage and signing him in the first place should have cost Roseman his job on the spot. Minshew can actually run the same offence as Hurts as well, having the waste of a roster spot human trash can Flacco backing up Hurts is dumb.

I’m sure they’ll keep him and carry 3 QBs.

Flacco can teach them the patented "throw it up and draw a flag" play, lot of value in that.

Patriot cut Cam Newton as Mac Jones wins starting quarterback battle.

WOW! I had read the stories of the Pats being frustrated about him not following the COVID procedures but I didn't think they would outright cut him.

Great, Cam hadn't changed much since last year, let the rookie learn on the job. He has better control of the offense in his first camp.

Newton is close to being done as an NFL QB anyway, the Covid stuff is just the dagger that makes it an even easier decision to cut him. The rushing is nice, but if you're a 8 TD 10 INT guy in such a QB friendly league, you don't have much of a future in this league. Especially when you're in your 30s and rely heavily on your legs. You can use him as a gadget player at this point, but that's pretty much it.

The fact that he was really bad in the last exhibition game probably didn't help his cause. He's no longer a dual threat QB because he's no longer an NFL caliber passer of the ball. I wonder if he's going to be able to accept that he's no longer viewed as a starting QB and retires or if he's willing to hold clip boards in hopes of getting another chance?

Really surprised with the Cam move...I thought Jones would eventually start, but not right away; I thought they would have kept Cam as an insurance policy at least.

Watched some video of Mac Jones. He has really good accuracy on the underneath stuff, and good accuracy on intermediate routes (with more than a couple of drops during pre-season). Not a big arm but more than adequate, especially with his feet set. But I don't see him stretching the field at all -- everything is short, underneath stuff with mostly a clean pocket.

Once defences start playing a little less vanilla and begin gameplanning to shut that down, it'll be interesting to see how he adapts. He's not really someone who can break out of the pocket or extend plays with his legs.

I really don't follow or pay attention to NE and I checked their roster to see who their backup QB would be since they cut Newton and Hoyer. They have Stidham but he is on the PUP list. I guess they need to do some shopping.

Hoyer will be back once the roster is set. They had to cut him to place some guys on the PUP list or something like that as per the radio yesterday.

To be honest that's the offense that won them Super Bowls. Throwing to running backs, slot receivers, and tight ends. Brady has a decent arm but he was never a big deep ball thrower outside of the years they had Moss.

Fair comment. If Jones can master that kind of offence, I think they can be competitive at least. He's no Tom Brady, but that's not exactly a criticism.

Yeah, they had to move Tidham to the PUP list today and can re-sign Hoyer tomorrow iirc.

I'm closer to a casual fan than a hardcore fan so all these roster moves can be complicated to follow and fully understand at times
