Icon59 Edmonton is No Good XI: Mud, Sweatpants and Tiers

Happy American Thanksgiving, everyone!

On 22 November, 2018, the St. Louis Blues were 7-10-3, and in 30th place in the NHL. They were 6 points out of a playoff spot.

The Oilers have 11 points, and are 10 points back of eighth.

Edmonton is no good.

It is remarkable how bad the Oilers have been this season and I absolutely love it. As someone who is clearly a hater of that franchise I didn’t see this team as the cup favorite juggernaut they were hyped to be back in the late summer. They have 2 of the best players who have been overplayed for the last 5 years and they are finally slowing down. Their supporting cast is quickly aging as well with Hyman, Nuge, Kane, Ekholm, over 30 years old. Campbell and Nurse both have boat anchor contracts that make it tough to add good talent around them. They have drafted so poorly that there aren’t any young players pushing for spots and proving value on ELC’s.

There is a long standing culture of losing that was built for more than a decade and the best player of a generation hasn’t been able to pull the team out of it and I love it

As Edmonton focuses on the all consuming pursuit of the next solution, we must ask ourselves: does it really matter if the toilet seat is up or down when there’s something in the water? Or is it new rink, same stink, and they’ll just have to live with the no goodening?

Let it be known, they never left the darkest timeline, drafting McDavid and failing to win was the ultimate knife twist

Wasting McDavid's career has to be the biggest squander in NHL history. Legendary, historical levels of failure.

It's delicious.

I really want them to do something stupid. It's panic time. I hope Katz tells Holland to go get a goalie, no matter the cost.

What I love about Ken Holland is that his career as GM with the Red Wings overlapped with the prime years of Nicklas Lidstrom.

You know... the HOF defenseman who literally played 30 min a night? So literally half the game was all star level defending?

And the moment Lisdstrom retired, that franchise went into the toilet. They have had a single 100 point season, and one playoff round win since his time.

Despite this - Ken Holland is not considered a braindead moron.

I mean, he is NOW.... but damn, way to kill your unearned legacy.

So I'm thrilled to see him both be a self professed lame duck and the guy responsible for the next 2 (and final) years of Conner McDavid as an Oiler.

It's gonna go SO GREAT!

Listen, Flames fans, to a story
That was written long ago
Bout a city up the highway
And the ugly-folk who love it so

In this city, was a franchise
Buried deep in the NHL
And the Oilers’ faithful swore
And cussed about their lifelong hell

Go ahead and hate Edmonton
Go ahead and mock Oiler “friends”
It’s the closest that we get to heaven
Watching them fly by the defensive end
There won’t be any blowhards crowing
Come elimination day
All the joyous Flames fans’ laughter
When McDavid walks away

So the heathens of the river valley
Send their jerseys over the glass
Demanding the Lord Stanley’s treasure
Despite a team that plays like ass

Came an answer from the Press box
With our tier one fans we will share
All the bad contracts we’ve assembled
All the feces buried there

Go ahead and hate Edmonton
Go ahead and mock Oiler “friends”
It’s the closest that we get to heaven
Watching them fly by the defensive end
There won’t be any blowhards crowing
Come elimination day
All the joyous Flames fans’ laughter
When McDavid walks away

Media fan boys cried with anger
Change our goalies, fire the coach!
And they killed McDraitl’s spirit
Whose defensive game’s still beyond reproach

Now they slunk around in sweatpants
Future capspace, marked in red
Check the standings and looked beneath it
“Playoff berth” is all but dead

Go ahead and hate Edmonton
Go ahead and mock Oiler “friends”
It’s the closest that we get to heaven
Watching them fly by the defensive end
There won’t be any blowhards crowing
Come elimination day
All the joyous Flames fans’ laughter
When McDavid walks away

It IS good to watch that mess up North spin their tires.

I am also glad we've finally gotten this thread's title out of the way, so it can FINALLY be moved past for future No Goodness

It’s easy to see the brains behind Detroit was way more Jim Nill than Kenny Boy.
