In my mind a retooling trade is when you take Corey Millen or Patrick and Zalapski or a Housley or a Marty McInnis. They basically took two full time NHL roster assets in their trades and 13 non roster assets. I think Miro was a guy they targeted.

Just not sure what they could offer in terms of futures outside of picks. Deal breaker could be that they have a handful of liabilities that I wouldn't want to take on in return.

As someone correctly pointed out to me in the post-mortem thread, you still have to ice a team. Grabbing players who are buried on deep teams and giving them an opportunity can get you additional assets in support of your rebuild.

If some of those guys turn out to be homeruns the rebuild might end up being a retool.

Keep drafting, keep developing your players, don't let your UFAs walk for free and for Pete's sake don't do anything dumb on July 1.

I’m not surprised. Must’ve been pretty stressful to know your name is out there and it’s all but certain to be dealt. May as well make the demand to know where you’re going so you can sell your house and settle into the new city in the offseason.
