I had a video conference call this morning where I was the only one in Canada, and it was about ~15 people in the US.

Attendee, noticing my jersey: Is your soccer team playing today?

Me: They played last night.

Attendee: Who did they play?

Great result last night, but as per Arsenals above stats, what are the odds that we will get enough friendlies if if we need them? Virtually none when we've only played a small handful since Herdman came on almost two years back.

That blown 2-0 lead to Haiti at the gold cup this summer hurts. We could really use the extra points now.

Nice.

Also, that's pretty decent but still a tightrope. If El Salvador wins their remaining two games against muppet teams they will add 9 more points and go 6 clear of Canada (result notwithstanding) with their campaign done - tells me if Canada gets a draw, maintains their lead or keeps it close and moves on to knockout rounds with the chance for more points they should be pretty much through no?

But if they lose and US makes knockout stage, they'll probably drop 3 or 4 points and be facing a gap of 9 or 10 points with no competitive games left. That's a tall order to make up in friendlies.

This next game against US seems almost all or nothing. Win takes them into the hex, tie makes them heavy favorites, loss and it's a huge mountain.

I read that while in round robin games you can lose or gain points, in the knock out stages you can not lose points even for a loss, and there is a third place game so Canada will have two high reward nothing to lose games if they can just make it through. If they avoid Mexico in round one will have a crack at both of Honduras and Curacao/Costa Rica who are all very beatable.

Phonzie was arguably the best player on the field in the Bayern - Dortmund clash today that Bayern won. He’ll be coming into the US game absolutely full of confidence!

He’s been playing at LB but is showing his ability to get forward a tonne. This will be huge for his development

Pulisic, Steffen, Bradley and Altidore are all missing Friday's match. Looking promising that Canada can win the group...

Wow, Pulisic has been incredible lately, that is huge news. Altidore is so good when he's healthy too, which is basically never these days so not a big surprise there. I know USMNT fans seem to hate him lately but I think Bradley is a loss for them too just with his confidence and leadership, he brings a certain arrogance to any group he's with.

That's tough news for the USMNT but still going to be a very tough game away down there. Looking forward to it - Allez les rouges!

Altidore couldn't kick a ball last week and was limped on the field for 30 minutes of TFC's whole playoff run, and he still scored an incredible goal (with his head). This is good news for Canada.

The only good thing about having Bradley out there is their buildup becomes more predictable, as everything goes through him.

But I think that people would still come out for a friendly vs. (insert random Central American country here). It would help grow the following for the CanMNT (or CanWNT for that matter) by playing in some of these "new" markets with neat little stadiums like Calgary, Victoria, Halifax, etc.
Should do more than a friendly, they can choose where they play home qualifiers

Playing some of those countries from hotter tropical areas, especially in the winter, should definitely be utilizing the climate for an advantage

Us played one in denver in november a while ago

Pulisic, Bradley, Adams, Altidore all out for the USA against Canada.

This could not be set up any better for the biggest game for the CMNT in many years.

A win on Friday can change the entire program.

Default The Canadian Men's Soccer Team Thread

Costa Rica have just defeated Curaçao 2-1. This is beneficial because Curaçao (8th, 1323 pts.) aren’t too far behind Canada (6th, 1339 pts.), and Costa Rica (4th, 1436 pts.) won’t be caught anyway.

It doesn’t really change the magnitude of tomorrow’s Canada vs. USA match, but it is still nice when teams that are chasing don’t get the results they need.

Now if Martinique can pull off a shocker at Honduras... dare to dream.

Could be wrong but I dont think martinique games count for any points... they're not a member of fifa. Good news on the curacao result. Win tomorrow almost certainly clinches now. Draw puts them in the driver's seat and heavy favourites.
