Split Squad!

Quote:
Liverpool have announced they will use two squads as progression in the Carabao Cup meant their quarterfinal meeting with Aston Villa would clash with their FIFA Club World Cup tournament.

"As a result, we will be utilising two playing squads simultaneously, with one squad participating in the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar and another in the Carabao Cup.

Meanwhile, EFL have warned Liverpool that the players selected for the game "must meet the competition's selection requirements."
https://www.espn.com/soccer/english-...p-due-to-clash

Now...what are the Cariboo Cup's selection requirements?

Quote:
Having considered all possible scenarios, the EFL has now accepted a request from the Club to play the fixture on the scheduled date, during the designated week for the Quarter-Finals in the domestic fixture calendar, with Liverpool committing to fielding a team that is largely consistent with those that have participated in earlier rounds of this season’s competition.

The players selected on the teamsheet must meet the competition’s selection requirements, which are outlined in the competition’s rules with, Regulation 6.5 stating: “Each Club shall play its full available strength in and during all Cup Competition matches, unless some satisfactory reason is given.”

Camp Cariboo....alright campers...get ready for the Academy players!

And the attraction of playing for Real Madrid at the moment is way, way less than it used to be.

It used to be great for players to move to sunny Spain, play in the lower-intensity and much slower Spanish league for Real or Barca and waltz to wins against minnows while winning everything.

Not so much anymore.

Spurs have won their appeal against Sons red card. Good.

But...but....the ref absolutely had to show red!

Glad to see them getting something right. Was never ever close to being a red.

So we'll be getting our two points back as well, right?

I thought that VAR was brought in so these kinds of things wouldn't happen?

Don't get me wrong, I'm pleasantly surprised that they overturned the red. I just think the damage was done.

Expectations exceeded.

West Ham is putting in a distinctly West Ham performance.

So did Tottenham and Arsenal it seems. Looks like the CL spots are all sewn up. I am hoping for a tie tomorrow so that we can get a bit of a multi-horse race.

I still think Spurs will get things sorted out and push for a spot. Obviously they've got work to do, but they're better than what they're showing at this point.

Your optimism is admirable but not a hope in hell.

They were very lucky today to even get a point between a dumb Var decision and Sheff U being the better team.

Well on the bright side they're three points out of fifth. Problem is that they're also three points from 17th.

VAR is just dumb though. That was a goal for Sheffield for sure and decisions like that shouldn't be overturned. It's ridiculous and took too long. At the same time though, there was a clear and obvious penalty on Son that VAR didn't call. It's entirely pointless in its current application.

man I'm probably the biggest VAR proponent you'll find, but how the hell is this taking sooo long? Process needs to be improved and sped up.

2-0 after 20 minutes, bloody hell. Feels weird.

Biggest issue of VAR for me is that it takes away from the excitement of scoring a goal. It's like I haven't accepted that it is going to count until 3 or 4 minutes have passed since scoring.

They might need to go to a coach's challenge system or something to try and lessen the amount of times it gets used.

I like the idea of VAR, but the implementation is a problem. It's no5 correcting clear and obvious errors. Taking away a goal based on a guy maybe being an inch offside is just pointless. Meanwhile the fans are sitting there unsure of whether to celebrate because they don't want to look stupid.

I think it could be used properly and actually improve things. Crackdown on grabbing and such on corners or whatever. Make it known that this happening, and focus on improved gameplay. But leave some of these niggly issues alone.

I agree with the sentiment, but how do you apply the rule where it's sometimes ok to be offside by an inch and sometimes it's not?

More VAR fun to start this game. Definitely handball but Aguero still needs to track back and not complain.

Salah looked maybe offside on the second but not even a check. Shambles, both VAR and City right now.

I imagine they must have looked at it quickly and decided it was good. Would be crazy if they didn't look at all.

Yeah but it actually looks more clearly offside on sight than the Sheffield one yesterday. Deserved three minutes showing every single line.
