Default Monitor Help...

Just did a fresh install on Win 10 on a SSD to freshen up my home laptop.

Now however one of my monitors wont work through the VGA port.

It is seen through the UI but no video is coming through.

I have updated all drivers available through WIN update. Even the optional ones.

Thoughts ?

Try the drivers from the laptop manufacturer's site, or the GPU manufacturer's if it has a dedicated graphics card. Windows doesn't always have the proper ones.

Tried all that. Nothing.

Works fine through the DVI connection but no video when on VGA.

The DVI connection is used through a docking station for my work laptop for my WFH days.

Did you check the refresh rate? Sometimes it picks a weird one that isn't compatible.

No option available.

This is weird. No change in cable or device in general...Just the new HD and a refreshed install of Win 10

You have to go in display settings, then scroll to the bottom and click "advanced settings". Select the display you have trouble with, then change the refresh rate at the bottom.

Warning that you can damage things if you go too high, if it isn't 60 I'd suggest trying a lower one, or if it is not a round number, try 60. Most of the time higher refresh rates are blocked anyway so you can't screw it up, but if you see them above 75, here be dragons.

Also sometimes you can get it to work by unplugging the vga cable, rebooting, then plug it in.

Try safe mode. If the monitor still doesn't come up it's probably a physical issue with the cable, monitor or port.

Could be out of range resolution or refresh rate as Fuzz mentioned.
