Interesting to see Leivo on the Monahan line. Thought Simon looked right at home there during the scrimmage.

It does put two shooters with Gaudreau which could work well.

Man I can't wait for tomorrow night!

For all intents and purposes I guess this is our 23 man roster.

I like it! Hopefully we don’t spend assets on defence at the trade deadline with two good young guys waiting for a chance and spend elsewhere.

I will be curious to see what forward is scratched each night.

My brain tells me Nordstrom but who knows..

Mangiapane

You've called him Mangipane at least a dozen times this month already. My eyes are bleeding.

Man ... catching up on this discussion I can't decide if I should jump on the group that over values Ryan, or the group that undervalues him!

The cool kids are clearly the ones that just value Derek Ryan.

The truth is somewhere in the middle.

“He’s a solid 4th line contributor who benefits the team not only during 5v5, but also on the penalty kill”

Ryan has been to this point been a serviceable player in the right role. I still think that the jury is out for his value this season.

The biggest issue with Ryan is that he is over paid. A cap hit of $3.1M for a bottom six veteran is too much.

Whoops I believe that is an error I have made much longer than this past month. I will try to be better.

Eye bleeding could be a serious condition hopefully you have a swift recovery

No worries. Therapy for the eye bleeding begins tonight with an Oilers loss and a Flames win tomorrow but side effects are more Hanifan posts.

I can't say enough how much I approve of separating Lindholm from Gaudreau and Monahan. I love that top 9 so damn much, each line is a threat.

Just looking for a good start from the likes of Monohan and Bennet, hopefully Hanifan and Anderson take the next step.

Exactly.

He isn't "replacement level" that's just silly.

But he has the 194th highest cap hit in the NHL for forwards this year. With 31 teams that's guy number 6.5 on the average NHL roster.

He's not a guy just off the second line in Calgary. If he plays on the fourth line he's over paid. If he plays on the third line he's a little over paid.

But ... if you look at ice time, his PK work got him to the 6th spot in total ice time last year for Flames forwards.

Honestly the guy has been value as a free agent signing, and he's certainly one of the team's best 12 forwards to start the season. But if they could move him out (waiver loss) and free up some cap space they could make a bigger dent at the trade deadline.

Additionally, ... his passing waivers may make him more attractive on the trade front as the acquiring team could assign him to their taxi squad for a number of weeks.

I agree.

I like him but think we could survive without him given our depth and considering he is 34 and a UFA it’s fairly written on the wall that he won’t be back next season.

Since Lucic isn’t going anywhere we need our 4th liners to be as cheap as possible.

His cap hit is about right to be honest - it just seems bad right now because it was a weird offseason where people signed contracts at lower values than other years due to COVID.

But generally the rule is $1M per $10 points - and he's a 30 point player that makes $3M. Plus he's a PKer and is pretty reliable defensively.

He's easily been the most consistent bottom 6 player for the Flames over the last two seasons.

I wouldn't re-sign for the same deal moving forward because of his age, but he was great value for the Flames for at least the first 2 years of this contract and wasn't overpaid at all.
