What exactly does that mean? What is "continuing care"?
EDIT: I googled it. It is the AHS run public LTCs and such. This does not include private LTCs and the like which seem to be at the back of the line compared to the AHS run facilities.

Mostly info that folks already have, but:
-6 Million doses by the end of March in Canada
-"Up to" 1 million doses a week starting in April
Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin, when asked about provinces looking for more doses, pretty much said that their aren't any more, and that every nation is trying to get more, faster. (I'm paraphrasing here)

perhaps, I know that Alberta has vaccinated nearly 19 000 LTC residents and I think that is getting close to the total number Shandro said were in Alberta (I may have that wrong). they are making good progress here- but as these folks are mostly getting moderna and those come in certain amounts it maybe a while to get to quite everyone. I am pretty optimistic on this front though

It does not seem to include private LTC facilities as it seems those are being scheduled now for last week of January or so.

Data out of Israel is suggesting that a single dose curbs infection by 50% after 14 days:
https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel...-vaccine-shot/
Good and bad news IMO. The article states that people above 60 may have only received 33% protection. 2 weeks is also a significant amount of time to wait with how fast this thing spreads.
It also looks like Israel providing Pfizer and the WHO with data was a major reason for why they were given so many vaccines early.

Yeah, it looks like that's the primary reason for their large number of doses, and it makes sense from Pfizer's perspective. It's basically a free phase 4 trial in return for early access to doses.

I can say for a fact that not all have been completed and won’t be for at least another 12 days.
I’m sure it may have to do with size, number in assisted vs independent living etc. I’m learning that there are many distinctions in types of senior facilities and care. And of course many combine different types of care.

Personal anecdote, I know of at least one private place that has a mix of long term care and assisted living that gave the first dose to anyone who wanted it today.
My relative who lives there missed it, because their in the hospital right now

I have a similar anecdote. In this case, someone didn't show for their appointment so a staff member friend of mine got it. Her second appointment is booked for end of February.

its depressing because there are hundreds (well probably thousands) of front line health care workers and physicians who have not been deemed eligible yet- however they are getting these same internal email reminders telling their colleagues who have invites to fill the slots. its like a double kick in the shins

Poland is a real success story for sure. It’s amazing what good government can do.

It’s an important message to get out but not really a big deal. At 8800 per day we are vaccinating at twice the rate of delivery. Some of that is because of Moderna this week but we were well over 5000 per day with Pfizer which means we have at least 20% people excess capacity.
Start doing all elderly if booking continues to be slow.

Yeah I see responses to Deena Hinshaw’s tweet from health care workers that are suggesting her tweet isn’t exactly showing the reality of the situation. Any health care workers that are eligible should be getting the shot but if a lot them can’t yet, then her sentiment in the tweet is a bit disingenuous.

AFAIK placebo arm of any vax covid trial puts you in group 1b in USA. Or maybe it's 1c, but is priority over gen pop

....I mean they did okay....twice the death rate of Canada and still averaging over 300 deaths/day. Not sure how Poland qualifies as a "success story" with 900 deaths/milllion, but Sweden is an unmitigated disaster at 1000 deaths/million.
