I am quite passionate about people being hired to have as much freedom as possible to do their jobs. People need to be hired to be leaders to feel empowered to work when they need to and when they don't. To work on things they know are the best things to work on. Not every week will hit over 40 hours. Hours will be in the day and some at night. When people feel the need to be creative they should be able to be and not sit chained to a desk.
Otherwise you have people watch the clock. They become more obsessed with filling an arbitrary metric rather than what you hired them to do.
So back to my point. As the link send says, employers could use this data to evaluate employees. I say that is an awful and short sighted way to do it. That's all.
