Return of the Bubonic Plague?
Reports that there is a case of the bubonic plague in China. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse. Huge if true.

The bubonic plague was never gone. When I travelled to Mongolia about ten years ago, I learned that it was still a thing there.

So might just be normal for 1-2 cases a year to happen.

In our changing times, we need a disciplinary review panel for headline writers. We worry about “fake news” and these people are some of the worst in the industry.

California has a few cases of plague a year.
It’s treatable with modern antibiotics.

Came to write this,
But if we do want bad news, I did hear the economist last week say something about a particularly bad swine flu H1N1 coming up this year (I think it was India). I tend to think that current measure against Covid would make it hard for a swine flu to get a good enough foot hold to really spread this year, but not great.

People still get it all the time, it's just treatable.
