One team came to bump, thump, & grind -the other team came with a high speed game plan & cinched up skates. You want the refs to put on blinders & blow the game for the sake of the local fans??

winning in preseason can make you complacent
losing gives the coaching staff lots of ammunition
...
so I would think Darryl could invade France tomorrow!

Oilers coach: Ok kids, go play. Pretend you’re McDavid or Nurse, or pretend your role is to get the puck to McDavid or Nurse. Don’t worry about anything else.
Sutter: Go out and show you’re ready to play an NHL level game under this Stanley Cup winning system that none of you have ever played before. Don’t deviate from the system as the collective execution of the system is what will win us games in May.
Sutter’s system is successful when it’s executed well and when it’s not you lose 4-0 to Oiler scrubs. The roster tonight of rookies aren’t going to be ready to win under a Sutter system and the vets tonight aren’t up to speed yet or will be the weaker ends of the team.
This is why the Oilers only win preseason games and raise Preseason Champions banners.

In that two minute clip Sutter critical of his D and didn’t seem to think much of Pelletier’s game.

At least Bennett had a good game!

Still don't understand the signing. I get you want the back end bigger and harder to play against, but that was not a good first showing for him.
Disappointed that no one fighting for a spot stepped up. I guess that will make some decisions easier. People complain about some PTOs that are handed out, but you need plan if those pushing fall flat.
Silver lining from tonight is the back up goalie battle and Shane homes donation for saves had a good night.

Just watched through the "highlights" because I only half watched the game.
Defence out for each goal:
Goal 1: Mackey and Welinski. Bouncing puck but the pair bumped into each other and both lost the puck entirely, allowing a breakaway.
Goal 2: Gudbranson and Mackey. Gudbranson swinging at the puck off to the side of the net, Mackey leaves the slot to stand behind the goal line on the other side. I was always told you should never send both D below the goal line on those plays, especially on the PK. Backlund could have negated the goal though IMO.
Goal 3: Valimaki and Welinski. Gawdin let his man step into a onetimer, but Welinski looked lost again.
Goal 4: Gudbranson and Valimaki. Gudbranson turns it over for a breakaway... ugh.

So the new #1 pairing is Kylington-Stone?
Kinnvall healing up and being the savior?
Which way are we leaning here?

I genuinely think the best path forward, which won’t happen for at least awhile due to the optics and 2 mil price tag, is to just cut your losses and send Gudbranson down
Stone really wasn’t bad under Darryl. No clue what changed in his game but he was surprisingly fine with Valimaki as a third pairing
Worst part of the Gudbranson signing is that it can hurt the development of our best prospect in Valimaki who is already having confidence issues and may be in the coach’s doghouse

Really? Many, but why is that relevant here and in this thread.

It was brought up by another poster who is right on the bandwagon after the massive preseason win and came here to brag...part of an ongoing conversation on previous pages.
He was angry about the Flames off season moves yet loves everything Kraken so it was a relevant post

Well it was blast to be back in the dome. Really missed that.
Also, I don’t want to read too much in to a preseason game but there were very few bright spots tonight. Thought both goalies played excellent. Can’t fault Vladar on either goal tonight and Werner settled in after a shaky start.
Erik Badbranson was in full force tonight.

Yes, but clearly some of them were good moves. Many would agree. All of them were moves in one offseason so there’s no point listing them all and getting into a debate one by one in this thread was the point.

Goalies were good.
Our prospects are not good.
Bottom 6 aren’t going to score many goals.
Defense was brutal.
Hopefully things look tighter when the whole roster is together. D makes me nervous.
