Scream factory released the first 5 Halloween movies on 4K today, so doing a franchise rewatch now. The first one is still so good, and really sets the template for other slasher films to follow in the 80s. I've never actually seen the sequel so looking forward to finally watching it.
I just can't get into the 4K thing, as I refuse to re-purchase my entire collection again for the umpteenth time. But I did order the new Shout Factory one strictly for the bluray disc and all the bonus features, commentaries, etc.. They also did a brand new transfer for this version, which I'm looking forward to.
Watched "The Guilty" with Jake Gyllenhaal while flying the other day. He plays a 911 operator and he is very nearly the only person ever on screen.
Pretty meh. Good premise, and he can carry a movie for sure but the parts dealing with the callers were far better done than the tie back to his own life IMO. It helped pass the time on the plane for sure.
Apparently a remake of a Danish film which might be worth looking for.

If you have a TV or streaming box with good upscaling (Sony, Nvidia Shield) 4K is much less noticeable, especially for older movies. I compared 4K and 1080p releases for Back To The Future and besides HDR adding a bit of brightness for 4K there is zero difference in picture quality
Halloween 2 was a great follow up to the first one. This was the first time I saw it and I had a great time with it, amazing score, high body count and great atmosphere with pretty much the entire movie taking place at night in a hospital. It's a shame the reboot got rid of this one. Up next Halloween 3, this one I have seen a bunch of times, it's one of my favorites.
Alita Battle Angel is up on Disney+ so I thought I'd give a go.
It was actually pretty damned good! Nothing super deep, but the visuals are fricking fantastic and the action sequences are entertaining and just kinetic in a way that most cgi-fests like this usually aren't. Really good looking shots and camera angles and the choreographies feel like there's a constant momentum to what's happening.
Even the characters are fine, in a kind of adorable teen movie way. I really don't get why this didn't do better in the box office originally. Then again I guess I'm one of the guilty ones for skipping it, but now that it doesn't cost you extra, I would recommend checking it out.

If they had simply found a better actor for the teen romance subplot than a piece of cardboard (or remove the romance entirely) the movie would have been 10x better

Edge of Tomorrow was really good. Much better then I thought it would be.
Love this movie.
I wouldn't say I am a huge Tom Cruise fan, but I've enjoyed every sci fi he has been in. Oblivion, Minority Report and Edge of Tomorrow.
They were doing a sequel I've heard...but now there's some uncertainty with it due to the challenges surrounding the box office and due to the fact it did only 'ok' at the box office during its theatrical run.
but Cruise, Blunt and Liman all want to do a sequel, which is a good sign. Sadly I think this was Bill Paxton's last movie before he passed away.

Perhaps you've forgotten that whole episode where a bunch of MRA types made it the official movie of the "red pill" crowd because it was released around the same time as Captain Marvel and they didn't like Brie Larson... I suspect that didn't help in terms of marketing.
